William of Ockham (English Franciscan friar, philosopher, theologian) was an English Franciscan friar, philosopher, theologian.

He is credited with the "principle of Occam's razor".

2. Occam's razor
Occam's razor is a principle that the simplest explanation is often the best explanation. It is also known as the "principle of parsimony" or "law of parsimony". In problem-solving, it states that "entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity".

4. Software development
In software engineering and development, when a good design has been found, any code created before that not so good design was discovered tends to disappear and one is left with clearer and more correct and, usually, faster running code. (personal experience from many years)
