Blessed be the name" appears to be from nineteenth century camp meetings. The refrain "
Blessed be the name" appears to have been written by William Clark (1854-1915). The music is by William Kirkpatrick.
2. Arranger
Arranger Ralph Hudson (1808-1901) adapted it 1887 and who added the refrain to other hymns such as "All praise to Him who reigns on High" and to "O for a thousand tongues to sing" (by Charles Wesley).
This is hymn #352 in the hymnal.
