1. Song: Come Christians join to sing
The hymn "Come, Christians, join to sing" was written in 1843 by English minister Christian Bateman (1813-1889).

The tune is MADRID (Spanish).

Later, Australian Wesley Milgate (1916-1999) recognized that the hymn is rewritten from the hymn "Join now in praise, and sing" by William Hickson (1803-1870) using the same melody.
This is hymn #342 in the hymnal.

2. Verse 1
Come, Christians, join to sing
Alleluia! Amen!
Loud praise to Christ our King;
Alleluia! Amen!
Let all, with heart and voice,
before his throne rejoice.
Praise is his gracious choice:
Alleluia! Amen!

3. Children
The original opening line appears to have been "Come, children, join to sing". This helps explain the simple melody and words that children can both sing and understand.

4. Verse 2
Come, lift your hearts on high,
Alleluia! Amen!
Let praises fill the sky;
Alleluia! Amen!
He is our guide and friend,
to us he'll condescend.
His love shall never end:
Alleluia! Amen!

5. Verse 3
Praise yet our Christ again;
Alleluia! Amen!
Life shall not end the strain;
Alleluia! Amen!
On heaven’s blissful shore.
His goodness we’ll adore,
singing forevermore,
Alleluia! Amen!
