In 1849, English Catholic Frederick Faber (1814-1863) wrote the hymn "
Faith of our fathers" written in memory of the Catholic martyrs from the time that the Church of England was established by Henry VII. One version was for Ireland and one for England. Many variations of the hymn exist today. Originally, the "
fathers" was "
martyrs".
This is hymn #526 in the hymnal.
