Lies and falsehoods
by RS  admin@creationpie.com : 1024 x 640

1. Lies and falsehoods
A lie is a falsehood. That is, something that is said or communicated that is not true (in reality). The Greek and Hebrew words for "truth" have to do with the truth of reality, not logic or opinion.

The ancient Greek word"ἀλήθεια""truth, not a lie". The modern Greek word "αληθής" (a-lee-THEES) ≈ "truth".

2. Not truth
Logic status bar Reality status bar
Here we are interested in "false" as being "not true" as in "not real" or "not in reality".

in two-valued logic, every statement is "true" or "false" and cannot be "true" and "false" at the same time.

Levels of truth
Lies are statements that, in reality, are not "true" (in reality) and distort reality.
There are many interesting quotes about "lies".

3. Lies and truth
A lie told often enough becomes the truth. Vladimir Lenin (Russian revolutionary and politician)

4. Big lies
The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, for the vast masses of the nation are in the depths of their hearts more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad. The primitive simplicity of their minds renders them a more easy prey to a big lie than a small one, for they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell a big one. Adolf Hitler (German dictator)

5. Consistency
What convinces masses are not facts, and not even invented facts, but only the consistency of the system of which they are presumably part. Hanna Arendt (Political philosopher)

6. Believing lies
People do not believe lies because they have to, but because they want to. Malcolm Muggeridge (British broadcaster)

7. Lies
Lies and truthsThere are a terrible lot of lies going about the world, and the worst of it is that half of them are true. Winston Churchill (British statesman)

How might one determine what is true and what is not true?

8. 2 Thessalonians 2:11 Strong delusion
Verse route2 Thessalonians 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: [kjv]
Verse routeπεμπειενεργειαν πλανης ειςπιστευσαιψευδει [gnt]

The Greek for "strong" is, from Aristotle, "actuality" so that the "strong delusion" is an "actual wandering/deviation/error" that is "sent" "into" the faith/belief. The KJV (King James Version) translates "into" as "that".

Planets in ancient timesThe ancient Greek word "πλανάω""wander about" and is the source of the English word "planet" as a "wandering star". The ancient Greek word"ψευδής""lying, false, untrue" and is the source of the English word "pseudo".
Discussion question: There have been many speculations about this "lie". What are some candidates for this "lie"? What ideas that are "false" might be put "into" the faith?

9. Modern Greek
The modern Greek word "ψευδής" (psev-THEES) ≈ "false".

Ken Ham promotes as a candidate for "the" "lie", not "a lie", in 2 Thessalonians 2:11, the belief in the theory of evolution.

13. Coded information note
Note that, using science, one cannot prove the Bible true nor false. However, attempting to get coded information from chance shows, with probability approaching 1.0, that there must be a creator outside of space and time (as we know it) and that, with probability approaching 0.0, the theory of evolution cannot be true (with respect to coded information arising by chance).

Note also that proving evolution false does not make the Bible true. Nor does proving a creator outside of space and time. Proving the Bible true (with probability approaching 1.0) requires additional logic and reasoning.

Verse routeπεφανερωσθαι … [gnt]
Verse routepropalatam … [v]

In some cases, the word "propaganda" is used to convey ideas that are not true (in reality). The English word "propaganda" is from the Latin word "propago""propagate, extend, enlarge" and is related to the English word "propel" from the Latin word "propello""forward" from the Latin word "pello""push, move".
