1. Song: Standing on the promises
The hymn "Standing on the promises" was written in 1886 by American Russell Kelso Carter (1849-1928). He was a professor at the Pennsylvania Military College of Chester (later Widener College) and licensed as a preacher by the Methodist Episcopal Church. He later became a doctor and a writer, writing novels and hymns.

He was known for his faith healing teachings and "positive confession".

In 1972 Pennsylvania Military College disbanded its Corps of Cadets and became Widener College (later University).

2. Tune
Music: Standing on the promises
This is hymn #69 in the hymnal.

3. Verse 1
Standing on the promises of Christ, my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing, standing on
    the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing, I'm standing on
    the promises of God.

4. Verse 2
Standing on the promises that cannot fail.
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing, standing on Standing, standing, I'm standing on

5. Verse 3
Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love's strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit's sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing, standing on
    the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing, I'm standing on
    the promises of God.

6. Verse 4
Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List'ning ev'ry moment to the Spirit's call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing, standing on Standing, standing, I'm standing on
