1. J. R. Tolkien
J. R. Tolkien (English author and philologist) .

J. R. Tolkien was a devout Catholic and a contemporary and friend of C. S. Lewis. Tolkien incorporated many Biblical principles into his fantasy (and other) works such as "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings".
As a philologist, Tolkien studied languages and created languages of his own - for use in his works, etc.

2. J. R. Tolkien and Eleventy
The word "leaven" is not related to the number 110 as in "eleventy" as in "eighty", "ninety", "hundred", "eleventy".

It is from the Old English word "hundendlefti""one hundred and ten" from the Old English prefix "hund""hundred" and the Old English word "endleofan""eleven" and ending "tig" where the hard "g" softened to a "y".

J. R. Tolkien in the Lord of the Rings trilogy popularized the usage of "eleventy" as 110.

This play on words was used in the Beverly Hillbillies TV comedy series (by Grannie) in the 1960's.

Note: The name "Eleventy" has been used in software as a name for a simple static web site generator.

3. J. R. Tolkien and Gandolf
J. R. Tolkien was a devout Catholic and a contemporary and friend of C. S. Lewis. Tolkien incorporated many Biblical principles into his works such as "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings".
In "The Lord of the Rings", The wizard Gandolf does not want the ring, the "Ring to rule them all", as he knows that it's power would tempt and corrupt him. This appears to be motivated by the part of the Lord's prayer that goes "and lead us not into temptation".

Information sign More: C.S. Lewis

4. J. R. Tolkien and Legolas
In Tolkien's trilogy Lord of the Rings, Legolas is an archer whose arrow never misses.

In real life, arrows miss. Unless they have some intelligence built into the arrow (or missile).
Tolkien, a devout Catholic, worked many Bible themes and ideas into his writings, just as his colleague and friend C. S. Lewis did with his writing's.
