Clothes and lack of clothes

Matthew 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? [kjv]

ποτε δε σε ειδαμεν ξενον και συνηγαγομεν η γυμνον και περιεβαλομεν [gnt]

What type of nakedness and type of clothing are we tasked with in the parable of the sheep and goats? Does Satan tempt with food and drink along the lines of the parable of the sheep and goats? What type of food and drink are you offering.

The modern Greek word "γυμνός" (y-MNOS) ≈ "naked, unarmed, uncovered" and is the source of the English words "gym", "gymnasium", "gymnastics" as ancient Greek sporting events were done "without clothes" and is cognate to the German word "nackt" ≈ "naked" and the English word "naked".

The Greek word did not always mean fully unclothed, but in some state of being unclothed, from fully to partially unclothed.

The words for "naked" are from the PIE (Proto Indo-European) root "*NEG" ≈ "naked, bare".

The Sanskrit word "नाग" (naga) ≈ "elephant", literally, the "hairless one".
The Latin word "nudus" ≈ "unclothed, naked, nude" and the source of the English word "nude".
The Old English word "nacod" ≈ "unclothed, naked".
The Russian word "нагим" (na-gim) ≈ "unclothed, naked".
The Gothic word "naqadana" ≈ "unclothed, naked" .

What is the origin and purpose of clothing? Initially, in Genesis, there was no problem.

Genesis 2:25

Greek: και ησαν οι δυο γυμνοι ο τε αδαμ και η γυνη αυτου και ουκ ησχυνοντο

Satan tells Eve the following.

Genesis 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. [kjv]

ηδει γαρ ο θεος οτι εν η αν ημερα φαγητε απ αυτου διανοιχθησονται υμων οι οφθαλμοι και εσεσθε ως θεοι γινωσκοντες καλον και πονηρον [lxx]

I heard one pastor say that, each day, we are becoming more and more like "God". Is this not the same argument and reasoning that Satan used with Eve?

What is the difference between the following?

People should see Jesus in us.
We should become more and more like God. (The pastor consistently avoided the name of Jesus and, instead, used God).

Later, Eve and Adam ate of the tree of life and were banished and thereafter wore clothes.

Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. [kjv]

και εποιησεν κυριος ο θεος τω αδαμ και τη γυναικι αυτου χιτωνας δερματινους και ενεδυσεν αυτους [lxx]

After the attempt by Adam and Eve to make their own clothes (as fig leaves), God makes (better) clothes for Adam and Eve.

Discussion question: What happens when humans make their own clothes instead of using God's clothes?

The "many colors" is not in the Hebrew but was added in the LXX (Septuagint) as a "hint" and was then used by the Latin Vulgate as "colors" and other versions continued this idea.

Clothing was first created by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God then made them clothing from the fur coat of an animal.

How important are clothes to the mortal body? How important are clothes to the eternal body?

In the parable of the wedding feast in Matthew 22, the King comes in to the invited (and uninvited) guests. One of the guests does not have a gown (as provided by the King) and is essentially without proper clothing, or naked. The result is not good (for that guest).

Paul considers "righteousness" part of the "armor" of God.

Psalms talks about being "clothed" in "righteousness".

29:16 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. [kjv]

Isaiah in a passage referred to in many of the Beatitudes and by Jesus, has more about being "clothed".
