1. Moravian stars

A Moravian star is a decoration, often illuminated from inside, that is used for the Advent/Christmas or Epiphany season.

The Moravian star originated in Germany in the 1830's at a Moravian Boys' School and came to America via Moravian congregations - particularly in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. The original star had 26 points usually less 1 point as place for an attachment.

The German "Herrnhuter Stern""Moravian star".

4. Bethlehem star of PA

On South Mountain near Bethlehem, PA, is a metal star. A wooden one was erected on that site about 1938 but soon steel supports were added from Bethlehem Steel in 1939. A new star was installed in 1967.

This star hearkens back to the Moravian founders who, on Christmas Eve of 1741, named their settlement in Pennsylvania after Bethlehem of Judea where Jesus was born.

Latin: iterum ergo locutus est eis Iesus dicens ego sum lux mundi qui sequitur me non ambulabit in tenebris sed habebit lucem vitae

7. Astronomy
Astronomers study the stars. Thales of Miletus was a pre-Socratic philosopher who studied astronomy. A story about him was included in Aesop's Fables. Thomas Aquinas (late 1200's) writes the following.

When Thales was leaving his house to look at the stars he fell into a ditch; while he was bewailing the fact an old woman remarked to him: "You, O Thales, cannot see what is at your feet and you expect to see what is in the heavens?"

Why did the blind man fall into the well?
Astronomy is a very difficult subject.
