1. Song: Jesus paid it all
This is hymn #273 in the hymnal.

2. Song: Jesus paid it all
Verse route1 Corinthians 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. [kjv]
Verse routeτιμης ηγορασθητε μη γινεσθε δουλοι ανθρωπων [gnt]
Verse routeMatthew 5:26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. [kjv]
Verse routeαμην λεγω σοι ου μη εξελθης εκειθεν εως αν αποδως τον εσχατον κοδραντην [gnt]

Elvina M. Hall (1818-1889) Virginia, wrote the words to the song "Jesus paid it all" in the hymnal while day-dreaming during a sermon. John T. Grape happened to have just written a melody. They fit exactly. It was written in 1865 as the American Civil War was coming to a close.

Question: If Jesus paid it all, do we need to keep paying the religious establishment? Can we just go out and do what Jesus asks us to do?

Music: Jesus paid it all

3. Day-dreaming
Sitting in the congregation, listening (or not listening) to the sermon, she scribbled the words in the only place available, in the hymnal. John T. Grape, in the same church, wrote the music from his song ALL TO CHRIST. He had written the tune shortly before being asked by the paster if he could write a tune for Elvina's words. The tune matched exactly. The rest is history.

It was "written on the fly-leaf of the New Lute of Zion, in the choir of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Baltimore, in the spring of 1865." (hymnary.org, 2019-10-19)

4. Verse 1
I hear the Savior say,
Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.

Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

5. Verse 2
For nothing good have I,
Whereby the grace to claim,
I will wash my garments white,
In the blood of Calvary's Lamb.

Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
