Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; [kjv]
και τουτο προσευχομαι ινα η αγαπη υμων ετι μαλλον και μαλλον περισσευη εν επιγνωσει και παση αισθησει [gnt]
The Greek translated "
knowledge" is that of "
understanding". The Greek translated "
judgment" is that of "
aesthetics" or "
senses". That is, they should abound more in better understanding (and better logic) and in their senses (less personal opinion).
The hymn "
More love to thee, O Christ" was written in 1856 by Elizabeth Payson Prentiss. (1818-1878) was born in Portland, MA, and moved to New York City in 1831. She opened a small girls' school in 1838. In 1840 she moved to Richmond, VA, to be help run a girls' boarding school. Married in 1845, they settled in New Bedford, MA. She wrote poetry, books and songs.
