Song: Blest be the ties that bind
1. Song: Blest be the ties that bind
The hymn "
Blest be the ties that bind" was written by Englishman John Fawcett (1740-1817) in 1782.
He was self-educated and converted by the preaching of George Whitefield at a young age.
Called to move to a big and well-to-do church, his congregation of his small and poor church pleaded with him to stay. He did and this hymn was the result of that decision.
This is hymn #560 in the hymnal.
The tune is DENNIS by Nagel.
2. Verse 1
Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.
3. Verse 2
Before our Father's throne
we pour our ardent prayers;
our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
our comforts and our cares.
4. Verse 3
We share our mutual woes,
our mutual burdens bear,
and often for each other flows
the sympathizing tear.
5. Verse 4
When we are called to part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again.
6. Verse 5
This glorious hope revives
our courage by the way;
while each in expectation lives
and waits to see the day.
7. Verse 6
From sorrow, toil, and pain,
and sin, we shall be free;
and perfect love and friendship reign
through all eternity.
