Song: There is sunshine in my soul today
1. Song: There is sunshine in my soul today
The hymn "
There is sunshine in my soul today" was written by Lidie H. Edmunds (1851-1920). Born in
Philadelphia, PA, she was a teacher but developed a spinal malady which limited her work. She wanted to become useful in the church and wrote poems and taught Sunday School, eventually becoming Superintendent of the primary department at Calvin Presbyterian Church.
Another song by Lidie H. Edmunds is "
My faith has found a resting place" (1891). (#75 in the hymnal)
This is hymn #630 in the hymnal.
2. Verse 1
There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.
O there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
When the peaceful happy moments roll:
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
3. Verse 2
There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King,
And Jesus, listening, can hear
The songs I cannot sing.
O there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
When the peaceful happy moments roll:
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
4. Verse 3
There is springtime in my soul today,
For when the Lord is near,
The dove of peace sings in my heart,
The flowers of grace appear.
O there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
When the peaceful happy moments roll:
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
5. Verse 4
There is gladness in my soul today,
And hope and praise and love
For blessings which He gives me now,
For joys "laid up" above.
O there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
When the peaceful happy moments roll:
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
