The hymn "
Christ for the world we sing" was written in 1869 by Samuel Wolcott (1813-1886). Born in Connecticut, educated it Yale and Andover Theological Seminary. He was a missionary to Syria from 1840 to 1842. He started writing hymns late in life but wrote over 200 hymns.
