Damaged goods
1. Damaged goods
This page starts an interesting thread but it is not clear where it might lead or if it even makes sense.
In that sense, it is just a start to stimulate thinking.
2. Jesus
We start with an interesting statement by Jesus. All the words for "good" here are the same Greek word, with inflection ending changes, of course.
Jesus is asked a question prefaced by "Good master" and "good thing".
3. Matthew 19:16
KJV: And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Greek: και ιδου εις προσελθων ειπεν αυτω ειπεν διδασκαλε αγαθε τι αγαθον ποιησω ινα εχω σχω ζωην αιωνιον
4. Response
Jesus responds and asks why he is called "good" and makes the statement that no one is "good" but God.
Of course, if Jesus is God, then he is "good" but that is allowed by the statement response.
5. Matthew 19:17
KJV: And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Greek: ο δε ειπεν αυτω τι με λεγεις αγαθον ουδεις αγαθος ει μη ερωτας περι του αγαθου εις εστιν ο θεος αγαθος ει δε θελεις εισελθειν εις την ζωην τηρησον εισελθειν τηρει τας εντολας
6. Good
Let us assume that no one is "good" but God.
Let us assume that this restriction for the label of "good" applies only to people and God. Inanimate objects and animals, etc., might be called "good". Such uses will be ignored for now.
For example, "good fruit" uses another Greek word for "good".
7. Sun
In the next verse, the "rain" falls on the "just" or "righteous" and on the "unjust" or "unrighteous".
8. Matthew 5:45
KJV: That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Greek: οπως γενησθε υιοι του πατρος υμων του εν ουρανοις οτι τον ηλιον αυτου ανατελλει επι πονηρους και αγαθους και βρεχει επι δικαιους και αδικους
9. Rain
However, the "sun" rises on both the "evil" and the "good".
If only God, including Jesus, is "good", then everyone else is "evil".
The Greek word for "evil" has a primary meaning of "burdened" though "evil" appears to fit well in most verses.
As "burdened" the "not good" appear as "damaged goods" and are "burdened" by the curse from Genesis.
10. Matthew 7:11
KJV: If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Greek: ει ουν υμεις πονηροι οντες οιδατε δοματα αγαθα διδοναι τοις τεκνοις υμων ποσω μαλλον ο πατηρ υμων ο εν τοις ουρανοις δωσει αγαθα τοις αιτουσιν αυτον
