Mark 8:23-25 Miracle of healing in two steps
1. Mark 8:23-25 Miracle of healing in two steps
Mark 8:24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. [kjv]
και αναβλεψας ελεγεν βλεπω τους ανθρωπους οτι ως δενδρα ορω περιπατουντας [gnt]
How would someone blind from birth "
see men as trees walking" on receiving sight from Jesus? In case studies, people blind from birth who received sight later in life can immediately "
see" what they have experienced through other senses. If you have truly experienced Jesus you will see him as he is.
2. Mark 8:23
Mark 8:23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. [kjv]
και επιλαβομενος της χειρος του τυφλου εξηνεγκεν αυτον εξω της κωμης και πτυσας εις τα ομματα αυτου επιθεις τας χειρας αυτω επηρωτα αυτον ει τι βλεπεις [gnt]
… blynde … axed … ought. [ty]
Matthew, Luke and John record many miracles, but the observant Peter notices that one miracle is a two-step process.
The Gospel of Mark is written by Mark from what he knows personally and what Peter has told him specifically.
3. Mark 8:23
KJV: And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

Wessex: & þa aet-ran he þas blinden hand end laedde hine buton þa wic. & spaette on his eagen. & his hand on asette & hine axode. hwaeder he aht ge-seage.
Tyndale: And he caught the blynde by the honde and leade him out of the toune and spat in his eyes and put his hondes apon him and axed him whether he saw ought.
4. Mark 8:24-25

8:25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. [kjv]

7. Imitation
Humans try to imitate and follow the example of Jesus.
If Jesus always did miracles in one step, or by always spitting to make clay and place it on the effected part of the body, we would probably be all doing that today. Often, the Bible in general and Jesus in particular, use different ways to accomplish similar things so that we do make incorrect abstractions as to what is important and what is not important.
8. Case studies
At least 50 people are known to have been blind from birth (cataracts, etc.) and then, at say, age 40 or 50, suddenly gain their sight.
They can read words with letters (if they have recognized via touch those letters)
They can read the time on a clock (hour and minute hands).
What can they not recognize? (What they have not experienced via other senses).
9. Touch
Some results from the case studies.
"Now that I have touched it, I can see it".
They could not see a Necker cube as flipping.
Perspective is different.
Concerned about passing cars while walking with eyes open.
Cannot ski downhill with eyes open.
