Accounting: pre-pay an expense with blood money
1. Accounting: pre-pay an expense with blood money
We are not to look for ways to get around the rules of God. Consider Judas, the "blood money", and the subsequent actions of the chief priests.
2. Matthew 27:3
KJV: Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
3. Matthew 27:4
KJV: Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
4. Matthew 27:5
KJV: And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
5. Hanged himself
The "
hanged" word here is a subject of debate.

Details are left as a future topic.

6. Strongs
- *G519 *1 ἀπάγχομαι (ap-ang'-khom-ahee) : from G575 and agcho (to choke; akin to the base of G43); to strangle oneself off (i.e. to death):--hang himself.
- Matthew 27:5 ... and departed, and went and hanged himself.
7. Price of blood
The religious establishment realize that it is not lawful to put the "price of blood" into the treasury.
8. Matthew 27:6
KJV: And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
9. Prepay an expense
The religious establishment reasons that they can pre-pay an expense, outside of the temple treasury, to not put the blood money into the treasury.
10. Matthew 27:7
KJV: And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.
The religious establishment had a requirement to bury strangers who had no other way to be buried. So:
Take the money and buy the field outside of the treasury.
In doing so, provide for the burying of strangers. That is, prepay a known expense.
That is one less expense to pay for from the treasury.
11. Accounting
12. Matthew 27:8
KJV: Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
13. Matthew 27:9
KJV: Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
14. Matthew 27:10
KJV: And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
15. God is not mocked
God is not mocked by such behavior.
A good verse sequence for this is Galatians 6:5-9.
16. Galatians 6:5
KJV: For every man shall bear his own burden.
17. Galatians 6:6
KJV: Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
18. Galatians 6:7
KJV: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
19. Galatians 6:8
KJV: For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he tha t soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
20. Galatians 6:9
KJV: And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
21. Doing good
A good song that illustrates doing good is Good King Wenceslas.
22. Song: Good King Wenceslas - Saint Stephen's Day
Do you ever get tired of doing good? Do you get as tired when not doing good?
Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. [kjv]
6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. [kjv]
The Greek for "well" "doing" is that of "doing" "good".
The Greek for "weary" is that of "in (doing) bad".
The Greek for "faint" is that of "giving up" and not of getting "weary".
The Christmas song "
Good King Wenceslas", based on the true story from 10th century Bohemia, relates the difficulties of doing good under adverse conditions.
