Yesterday

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. [kjv]

Sign: We change. But God's Message is the same.

Has God changed? Does God change? How would a God who is outside of time and space change? What about Jesus? If Jesus is God, would not the same reasoning apply?

Hebrews 13:8

The Latin word "hodie" ≈ "today" and is from "hoc" ≈ "this"and "die" ≈ "day". Here are some words for "yesterday"

The modern Greek word "εχθές" (eh-KHTHEHS) ≈ "yesterday" (same as in ancient times) but the word is often shortened (at the beginning) as "χθες" (hthehs) ≈ "yesterday".
The German word "gestern" ≈ "yesterday".
The Latin word "heri" ≈ "yesterday", as used above.
The Spanish word "ayer" ≈ "yesterday" from the Latin "ad heri".
The French word "hier" ≈ "yesterday" from the Latin "heri".
The Russian word "вчера" (schira) ≈ "yesterday".
The Latin word "hesternus" ≈ "of yesterday", as used below.
The Old English is "geostran dæg" which literally means "yester day" as two separate words.

Are there any similarities between the word for "yesterday" in the various languages mentioned?

The PIE (Proto Indo-European) root is "*dhgh(y)es" ≈ "yesterday".

In some older languages, the word originally meant the "other day" but eventually came to mean "yesterday".

Notice how the hard "g" is in German from the Gothic "gistradagis" which meant "other day", but the English hard "g" as with many other English words, changed to a softer "y" sound.

At one time, English had the words "yesternight" and "yesteryear". The word "yesternight" appears in the KJV (King James Version).

How might God view time?

Psalms 90:4

KJV: For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Hebrew: כי אלף שנים בעיניך כיום אתמול כי יעבר ואשמורה בלילה׃

Greek: οτι χιλια ετη εν οφθαλμοις σου ως η ημερα η εχθες ητις διηλθεν και φυλακη εν νυκτι

Latin: quia mille anni in oculis tuis sicut dies hesterna quae pertransiit et vigilia nocturna

Luther: Denn tausend Jahre sind vor dir wie der Tag, der gestern vergangen ist, und wie eine Nachtwache.

Spanish: Porque mil años delante de tus ojos, son como el día de ayer, que pasó, y como una de las vigilias de la noche.

This verse brings to mind a verse in 2 Peter.

2 Peter 3:8

That is, God is outside of time and space as we know it.
