Babylon in Revelation
1. Babylon in Revelation
The word "Babylon" is used in six verses in Revelation.
Revelation describes an end-time scenario about "Babylon" where a world economic leader, and perhaps the world economy, is effectively destroyed in within an hour. Could that actually happen?
No one is quite sure in this context what the name Babylon represents. Some verse parts appear to fit today. Others do not.
2. City
What great city would be a candidate for a modern day Babylon?
In Revelation, this great city, whatever it represents, comes to a quick and violent end.

7. Requirements
Here are some requirements for Babylon.
A great city.
All nations or peoples are made to "drink".
The "drink" is the wine of the wrath of her "fornication".
8. Revelation 16:19
KJV: And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
9. Mystery
The "mystery" is that of "Babylon". The next verse appears to indicate more clearly that the word "Babylon" is a code word for some worldly organization - city, people, nation, etc.
10. Revelation 17:5
KJV: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Greek: και επι το μετωπον αυτης ονομα γεγραμμενον μυστηριον βαβυλων η μεγαλη η μητηρ των πορνων και των βδελυγματων της γης
11. Revelation 18:1-24 Cagey birds and the end of Babylon
Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. [kjv]
In Revelation 18, "
Babylon" the
"great" is described as a
"hold" or "
"cage" or
"watch" or
"prison" of every
"unclean" "
spirit" and of every
"unclean" and "
hateful" type of
"bird".
In Matthew 7, the house built on sand will be "
cut off" will have a
"great" "fall" (same exact Greek words).
☐ Are the
fowl (
unclean) spirits and
birds in
"cages" being
"watched"?
☐ Are those in the
"watch" or
"prison" being
"watched" by the
fowl (
unclean) spirits and
birds?
