1. Revelation 18:1-24 Cagey birds and the end of Babylon
This content is under development.

2. Revelation 17:18 End of chapter 17
Verse routeRevelation 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι η γυνη ην ειδες εστιν η πολις η μεγαλη η εχουσα βασιλειαν επι των βασιλεων της γης [gnt]

Revelation 17 ends after a discussion and hints about the "woman" and the "great" "city". Which "woman" as a "great" "city" in the "end times" controls the "kings" of the "earth"?

Future topic Details are left as a future topic.

There is a "great" "king" and "city" mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5. There is also a "city" on a "mountain" that cannot be "hid" (in a bad sense) mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5. Might these be related?

3. Cities of the king and queen
The woman or queen is associated with Babylon.

The king is associated with Jerusalem.
Verse routeMatthew 5:35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. [kjv]
Verse routeμητε εν τη γη οτι υποποδιον εστιν των ποδων αυτου μητε εις ιεροσολυμα οτι πολις εστιν του μεγαλου βασιλεως [gnt]

4. 1 Corinthians 14:33 Peace and confusion
Chess piecesThe word "peace" can be hard to define and is left for another time. Perhaps that can "appease" you for the time being. Paul, in 1 Corinthians 14:33, contrasts "peace" with "confusion" as in "commotions". The Greek is, literally "not standing down".

Verse route1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. [kjv]
Verse routeου γαρ εστιν ακαταστασιας ο θεος αλλα ειρηνης ως εν πασαις ταις εκκλησιαις των αγιων [gnt]
Verse routedissensionispacis … [v]

The meaning of "not following the established rules" as in "making one's own rules" could be used for the term "lawlessness" - which in English can mean "anarchy" or "commotion" or "confusion". However, there is a Greek word for this idea (and is associated with the opposite of "peace" by Paul) in 1 Corinthians 14:33.

5. Revelation 1:19 After these things
Verse routeRevelation 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; [kjv]
Verse routeγραψον ουν α ειδες και α εισιν και α μελλει γινεσθαι μετα ταυτα [gnt]

The ancient Greek phrase "μετά ταύτα""after these things" appears 111 times in the GNT (Greek New Testament) and LXX (Septuagint). John uses the phrase 10 times in Revelation.

The English word "tautology" comes from Latin "tautologia""tautology" which comes from the ancient Greek word "ταὐτολογῐ́ᾱ""tautology" and which means, literally, "same/identical reasoning/logic". This word was first applied to (propositional) logic by Ludwig Wittgenstein in 1921, being borrowed from rhetoric where an idea is repeated as in using the "same reasoning".

The modern Greek word "ταυτολογία" (tav-to-lo-Y-a) ≈ "tautology",

6. Revelation 18:1 Beginning of chapter 18

Verse route μετα ταυτα ειδον αλλον αγγελον καταβαινοντα εκ του ουρανου εχοντα εξουσιαν μεγαλην και η γη εφωτισθη εκ της δοξης αυτου [gnt]

The ancient Greek word "μετά""after, with". This, literally, the English word "repent" means, in Greek, an "after thought" or "think after".

The ancient Greek word "δόξα""opinion, expectation" as in "doxology". This word, after the Latin, is often translated as "glory".

8. To see a timely prison watch
Verse routeMatthew 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. [kjv]

The modern Greek word "φυλακή" (fee-la-KEE) ≈ "watch, prison" from the ancient Greek word "φυλακή""watch, prison" where "prison" was one way to be "watched". The Greek word is the source of the English word "prophylactic".

Verse route14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. [kjv]
Verse routeτεταρτη δε φυλακη της νυκτος ηλθεν προς αυτους περιπατων επι την θαλασσαν [gnt]

Cage Sphere
In Revelation 18, "Babylon" the "great" is described as a "hold" or ""cage" or "watch" or "prison" of every "unclean" "spirit" and of every "unclean" and "hateful" type of "bird".
In Matthew 7, the house built on sand will be "cut off" will have a "great" "fall" (same exact Greek words).

In Revelation, Babylon is described as a "watch" of every "unclean" and "hateful" type of "bird". Are they "watching" those in the "watch"?

In Matthew 7, the house built on sand will be "cut off" and "fall".

The ancient Greek word "φυλάσσω""watch" is related to "φυλακή""watch, prison". The KJV (King James Version) translates the same word as "hold" and then "cage" and takes a viewpoint on who is "watching" and who is being "watched".

Discuss: How might the world be a "cage" or "watch" for a believer?

17. Cagey
Cage

The English word "cagey", from the animal world, refers to someone who is wary, careful, shrewd, etc. As such, they may not want to communicate, be elusive, etc.

In a religious setting, a "bird" or "pig" as a false "teacher" or false "leader" may be wary of those being "watched" and may not wont to communicate, be elusive, etc. In particular, they may not want to be accountable to the faithful when they substitute their own "opinion" or "glory" (same Greek word) for the "opinion" or "glory" of God.

Verse routeostium vertiturcardinepigerlectulo … [v]

Birdhouse of cardinals Door hinge

Since cagey "birds" are easily "unhinged" and the word "cardinal" goes back to the turning of a "door" on a "hinge", one might say that such cagey "birds" have built a "house" of "cardinals".

The English word "cardinal" comes, through French, from the Latin word "candinalis""pertaining to a hinge, something that turns" and which is from "cardo""hinge".

21. Matthew 5:43,46 Love and hate
Verse routeMatthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [kjv]
Verse routeηκουσατε οτι ερρεθη αγαπησεις τον πλησιον σου και μισησεις τον εχθρον σου [gnt]

Verse routeεαν γαρ αγαπησητε τους αγαπωντας υμας τινα μισθον εχετε ουχι και οι τελωναι το αυτο ποιουσιν [gnt]

Jesus uses the "heathen" or "ethnics" to refer to the "sea" of "humanity" or "fish" and uses the "publicans" collectively to refer to both the "birds" or "eyes" and the "pigs" or "hands".

The ancient Greek word "μισθός""wages, pay, recompense, reward" and, as a play on words, "μῖσος""hatred, hate". Can you imagine what a "hateful" "bird" or false "leader" or "eye" might be like? They would always have the faithful under a "watch" or "prison" as if in a "cage".

Verse routeκαι τω αγγελω της εν περγαμω εκκλησιας γραψον ταδε λεγει ο εχων την ρομφαιαν την διστομον την οξειαν [gnt]

Many customs originated from the Tower of Babel and Babylon which then went to Pergamus and then to Rome and then to the rest of the world.
  • Spring (renewal, planting, Easter)
  • Summer (growing)
  • Fall (harvest, fruit, Halloween)
  • Winter (Saturnalia, Christmas, Hanukkah)

[linguistic connections, papyrus vs. parchment, underground pipes]

Some people went north and west, as ended the Germanic tribes with customs of the winter solstice tree.

House on sand words
Do you see any connection to the following?

25. Matthew 7:25,27 House built on sand
House on rock of Christ:
Verse routeMatthew 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι κατεβη η βροχη και ηλθαν οι ποταμοι και επνευσαν οι ανεμοι και προσεπεσαν τη οικια εκεινη και ουκ επεσεν τεθεμελιωτο γαρ επι την πετραν [gnt]

House on sand of man:
Verse route7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι κατεβη η βροχη και ηλθαν οι ποταμοι και επνευσαν οι ανεμοι και προσεκοψαν τη οικια εκεινη και επεσεν και ην η πτωσις αυτης μεγαλη [gnt]

The "rain", "rivers" and "wind" "falls" on the "house" built on the "rock". However, the "rain", "rivers" and "wind" "cut off" (different word) the "house" built on "sand". The ancient Greek word "προσκόπτω""cut towards/off". The "house" is "cut off". Perhaps they "cut off" themselves as in separating themselves from the love of Christ - as the lost sheep that goes on the mountain.

26. Matthew 7:27 House built on sand
Verse routeMatthew 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι κατεβη η βροχη και ηλθαν οι ποταμοι και επνευσαν οι ανεμοι και προσεκοψαν τη οικια εκεινη και επεσεν και ην η πτωσις αυτης μεγαλη [gnt]

The "house" built on "rock" does not "fall". However, the "house" built on "sand" is "cut off" and has a "great" (size or number) "fall". The ancient Greek word "πτῶσις""falling" and, in grammar, is a case or inflection. The ancient Greek word "πίπτω""fall". A related word is "πτωχός""beggar" and means, literally, one who has fallen. Jesus often refers to the "poor" as those who are "fallen" and need the "Gospel" or "Good News" which is the source of the English word "evangelical".

Might there be a play on words of the "great" "fall" with the "many" or "city" in the (false) "house" on the "mountain" following the (false) "light" who need the "Good News" but, due to "birds" and "pigs" (who work for the "birds") get "cut off" and never got to hear (or were misled about) that "Good News"?

Are there people who do not believe that "devils" or "demons" exist?

The Greek for "habitation" has the Greek word for "house" in it. Is this a "house" built on "sand"?

The Greek suffix of "habitation" is the same suffix for "alter" or "sanctuary".

Within the Greek word for "habitation" is a play on words for the Greek for "beast" which is a word used often in Revelation.

The Greek for "foul" is that of "unclean". The ancient Greek word "καθαρός""clean, clear, pure" which is negated with an alpha prefix as "ἀκάθαρτος""unclean, impure".

The Greek for "spirits" is the word for "spirit" as in "Holy" "Spirit".

30. Usage - unclean
*G169 *31 ἀκάθαρτος (ak-ath'-ar-tos) : from G1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of G2508 (meaning cleansed); impure (ceremonially, morally (lewd) or specially, (demonic)):--foul, unclean.
Word usage per chapter Words: ακαθαρτα=6 ακαθαρτοις=2 ακαθαρτον=9 ακαθαρτος ακαθαρτου=4 ακαθαρτω=5 ακαθαρτων=4

The ancient Greek word "καθαρός""clean, clear, pure" which is negated with an alpha prefix as "ἀκάθαρτος""unclean, impure".

31. Cleansed

A folk etymology is that the English name "Catherine" comes from the ancient Greek word "καθαρός""clean, clear, pure" but it comes from the ancient Greek word "Αἰκατερίνη""Goddess Hecate". It is possible that they are related. Related English names are "Caitlin", "Karen" and "Katrina".

The ancient Greek word "καθαρός""clean, clear, pure" which is negated with an alpha prefix as "ἀκάθαρτος""unclean, impure".

The ancient Greek word "μισέω""hate" and is from "μῖσος""hatred, hate" and appears to be pre-Greek in origin. Jesus says that the world will "hate" his followers because the world "hates" Jesus (and God).

The ancient Greek word "ὄρνεον""bird" as in a generic bird and is the source of the Old English word "earn""eagle" and the English word "ornithology" as the "study of birds" (coined in the 1600's). Jesus uses various words for "birds" as a code word for a false leader who uses others for personal purposes and not for the purpose of God or Christ.

The ancient Greek word "πορνεία""fornication, prostitution". Adding "γράφω""write, depict" is the source of the English word "pornography", which some shorten to "porn".

The ancient Greek word "πληγή""stroke from a sword or pike" but is translated as "plague" in the GNT (only in Revelation) and is the source of the English word "plague".

The Greek for "plagues" is that of "strikes" which may or may not be what is thought of as a "plague" today.

41. Mind of the tail
If Jesus is the "head", then what is the "tail"?

Jesus often uses code words where nouns are replaced with other nouns - so that the people will not understand. In the security field, this is the definition of a secret code. An interesting play on words is the use of a certain form of the word "heaven" - the genitive singular form.
English: heaven, air
Greek: οὐρανού
Greek: οὐρά νου
English: tail of the mind
Note: Play on words to not need to follow grammar and/or spelling rules to be recognized and/or be effective.

Let us see how Jesus uses this form of the word in Matthew.

Verse routeοτι εκολληθησαν αυτης αι αμαρτιαι αχρι του ουρανου και εμνημονευσεν ο θεος τα αδικηματα αυτης [gnt]

The ancient Greek word "ἄχρι""to the bottom, utterly, as far as, until" and is related to "μέχρι""until".

The TR (Textus Receptus) uses a different Greek word meaning "followed" which is translated as "reached" or "piled" or "heaped" instead of "glued". The idea of "piled as high as heaven" appears to be one way the Greek words have rationalized as to meaning.

The Greek word for "heaven" is the same word as for "air". This particular word for "heaven" can be a play on words that indicates a negative or false sense of "heaven".

The Greek word for "swear" is related to the Greek word for "shoulder" and can be a play on words with "Moses".

That word is used elsewhere in the GNT and in the LXX but James does not use this word. The Greek word used here by James means a rudder as in something that, literally, means something that allows one to "go straight ahead" or in the direction desired.

78. Smoke and fire
Humans tend to want simple rules that work all of the time. The "100 percent rule". Unfortunately, this is almost never the case.

The saying "where there is smoke, there is fire" assumes that smoke always means fire. It often does but not always.

The saying "when the grass is wet, it rained" is often true, but one can think of many ways this might not be true. For example, a laws sprinkler watering the grass.

In general, this is the "converse fallacy".

The English word "woe" appears many times in the Bible. Think of a "bird" of prey (eagle, hawk, owl, vulture, etc.) swooping down. Sometimes the English word "alas" is used for "woe".

The modern Greek word "χάος" (HA-os) ≈ "chaos, disorder" is related to the ancient Greek word "χους""dust".

The legend of Atlantis has that city descending into the sea and being found no more..

Apparently "Babylon" will be thrown down into the sea - with violence - and found no more. What might that mean?

"Millstones" around the neck and being cast into the sea are used by analogy by Jesus. The Greek word "millstone" can be a play on words with "dark" or "black" (as a hair) or "indistinct" (as a sound) or a play on words on "mile" "one".

The exact word for "millstone" used in Revelation 18:21 appears only once in the GNT. The TR changes this word and breaks the play on word pattern.
