Anthrax as the color of red hot coal

Coal is compressed and heated wood or other vegetative material.

The ancient Greek word "ἀνθρακιά" ≈ "pile of charcoal, charcoal fire" and is from "ἄνθραξ" ≈ "charcoal, deep red precious stone, abscess, carbuncle".
The word is sometimes used as a color. It can be unclear as to whether the color is the dark blue or purple, almost black, color of coal or the red hot color of a burning piece of coal.

The English word "coal" and is from the Middle English word "cole" ≈ "coal" which is from the Old English word "col" ≈ "coal". The related German word "Kohle" ≈ "coal".

In the medical field, "anthrax" is an infectious disease that forms lesions that have can have a dark or black color which led the English name (about 1400) from the Greek.
