A "prefix" is a word that is added at the beginning of a word.

Many prefixes are prepositions that have a "pre position" in a word order.

A preposition is a word that has a "pre position" in a word order. That word was coined by an ancient Greek as Greek had no "postpostitions".

In English, a "postposition" is not encouraged. Using a "postposition" is something I would not think of.
