κέντρον» means something with a sharp point, which could be used as a whip or goad. As such, it could be like a pole with a sharp point. It can also mean a thorn, nail, etc.

bema" seat. The Corinth Games were second only to the Olympic Games in ancient Greece. That "
bema" seat was the seat at which the
judge sat in determining and presenting awards. Today, the
athletes stand on the "
victory podium".

In the modern Olympics, the

Super Bowl in 1967), stand on the "
victory platform" to receive their award. In ancient times, one stood before the (elevated) seat of the
judge.
The "
