1. John Archibald Wheeler
John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

He worked in the Manhattan Project on the atomic bomb and later revived interest in general relativity (gravity, etc.) after World War II.

His students included Richard Feynman and Benjamin Schumacher (and many more).

He gave a famous speech (and article) entitled "it from bit".

2. Ignorance
We live on an island surrounded by a sea of ignorance. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

3. Knowledge
Knowledge only progresses by making mistakes as fast as possible. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

4. Exploration
In any field, find the strangest thing and then explore it. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

5. Calculations
Never make a calculation until you know the answer. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

6. Past
What we call the past is built on bits. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

7. Spacetime and matter
Spacetime tells matter how to move; matter tells spacetime how to curve. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

8. Connections
Nobody can be anybody without somebodies around. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)

9. John Archibald Wheeler: It from bit

John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist) held that information is fundamental to physics and reality with his "it from bit" ideas. Otherwise put, every it - every particle, every field of force, even the space-time continuum itself - derives its function, its meaning, its very existence entirely - even if in some contexts indirectly - from the apparatus-elicited answers to yes-or-no questions, binary choices, bits. John Archibald Wheeler (American theoretical physicist)
