Daniel 8: Horns of Greece
1. Daniel 8: Horns of Greece
In Daniel 8, Daniel receives some prophecies having to do with Media, Persia and Greece. The horns represent kings of those groups.
Daniel 8:20 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia. [kjv]
8:21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. [kjv]
8:22 Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power. [kjv]
Alexander the Great is described, 200 years before it happened, as the one great horn that splits into four smaller horns. After Alexander's death in 333 B.C., his empire is divided into four parts by his four main generals.
2. Horns and trumpets and tubas
3. World history
Remember world history and the dream of Nebuchadnezzar that was interpreted by Daniel.
Chaldea (Abraham called to Canaan)
Egypt (Joseph from Canaan, Moses out of Egypt and back to Canaan)
Assyria (capitol Nineveh to whom Jonah was called)
Babylon (gold, the head, to which Daniel was taken)
Media-Persia (silver, the chest and arms, ram with two horns)
Greece (brass, belly and thigh, goat with one horn, not touching the ground, broken into four horns)
Rome (iron, legs for two parts, then later many parts, later mixed with clay)
4. The dream
The last five empires are described in prophecy in the interpretation of the dream by Daniel in Daniel 2.
5. Phillip
Phillip's son is the next to last part, the goat with one great horn, which would be broken, and continue as four smaller horns. Daniel predicts this more than 200 years before.
6. Daniel 8:20
KJV: The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.
7. Daniel 8:21
KJV: And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.
8. Daniel 8:22
KJV: Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
9. Alexander the Great
That son appears to be Alexander the Great. Among other prophecies, Daniel predicts this over 200 years before it happened.
The son of Phillip was Alexander the Great. Over the next 13 years, his army of 10,000 p/us, would travel, mostly on foot, 15,000 miles, never losing a battle, and conquering the known world at the time. This included the mighty Persian empire, Egypt, and part of India. He died suddenly and unexpectedly in 323 B.C. His empire was divided among his four generals.
10. Washington
Washington's Battle of Delaware (crossing the Delaware river when and where not expected) was modeled on Alexanders classic battle at the river of the Hydaspes in India more than 2,000 years before.
11. Cities
Along the way, Alexander established many cities, many named after him, such as Alexandria in Egypt.
Was Alexander great? Did luck have anything to do with it? Or was it divine destiny?
12. Daniel 10:20-21 Time travel
Here is what an angel told Daniel in Daniel 10 which would have been about 550 B.C..
Daniel 10:20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. [kjv]
10:21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince. [kjv]
The angel is fighting "
with" the prince of
Persia and then the prince of Greece shall come. Is the angel fighting for or against those powers? is it clear. Is the "
prince" the leader of those powers or the power behind those leaders?
It would appear that the angel could be traveling through time to take care of needed business, first with the prince of Persia, and, later, with the prince of
Greece.
13. Daniel 10:20
KJV: Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.
14. Daniel 10:21
KJV: But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
