Doomsday as judgment day

The Middle English word "doom" ≈ "judgment" and the Old English word "dome" ≈ "judgment" and are the source of "doomsday" as in "judgment day".

Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. [kjv]

In Old English, "doom" meant "judgment". Thus, "doomsday" means "judgment day". The ancient Greek word "πειράζω" ≈ "examine" and is often translated in the KJV (King James Version) as "tempt". The Greek for "temptation" means an "examination" to deceive using what you think or know to be true.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. [kjv]

και μη εισενεγκης ημας εις πειρασμον αλλα ρυσαι ημας απο του πονηρου [gnt]

The Lord can deliver the righteous from temptation. What about the "ungodly"?

Jesus tends to so the "verily I say unto you" (in this case plural) to tell the reader to connect the previous and following thoughts.

The "and I say unto you" appears to extend the thoughts to be connected.
