Today, the word faith tends to means a trust or expectation in something that cannot be known for sure.

The similarities and differences between belief and faith can be seen in a few well-known verses in James.

Here we are not concerned with "works" but with the words "faith" and "belief".

The ancient Greek word "πιστός""faithful, believing, obedient".
The ancient Greek word "πίστις""trust in others, faith, being persuaded".

The hymn "The solid rock" that starts "My hope is built on nothing less" was written in 1834 by English Baptist minister Edward Mote (1797-1874).
