11. Church calendars
The Roman Catholic Church church (and the Western world) uses the Gregorian calendar for dating. The Eastern Orthodox Church still uses the Julian calendar for religious dating (13 days difference).

12. Year and season of the birth of Jesus
Thermometer hot Thermometer cold
When you hear that Jesus was born in 6 BC (or 4 BC or 2 BC) does that make the Bible not true? Or is the calendar not accurate?
Best guess for time of year: Spring or fall time frame. Feast of Trumpets in fall provides immaculate conception in December time frame.

[sheep in open field, course of Zechariah and Josephus]

If your thermometer showed that water freezes at 50 degrees, would what you learned about water freezing at 32 degrees not be true? Maybe the thermometer is inaccurate.

13. Time of year
We celebrate Christmas on December 25 each year. What time of year did it actually happen? Was it December 25 or sometime else?

Best guess for time of year: Spring or fall time frame. Feast of Trumpets in fall provides immaculate conception in December time frame.

14. Dionysius
In 525 A.D., a monk named Dionysius was tasked with determining the exact date of the birth of Jesus and changing the calendar appropriately. By using the reigns of Roman leaders and other important historical relative dates, he come up with a new dating system. He had no year zero, creating a hole in the sequence of years. He also appeared to make at least one important mistake which accounted for about 5 years during the reign of Caesar Augustus known initially as Octavian.

15. Tradition
Once a tradition gets started, it is hard to change.

Once everyone starts using a dating system for years it is hard to change.

16. Millennial dates
Some people get all worked up about January 1 of even hundred years and more-so for even thousand years.

What is special about January 1, 1000 AD, January 1 2000 AD, etc.? These are just human man-made arbitrary conventions that have no other significance.

Note: The Year 2000 computer issue was a real issue that was addressed since it was a man-made issue of how computer code was written years earlier.

17. Winter solstice
The longest day of the year is June 21, the summer solstice, which marks the beginning of summer.

After the summer solstice, the days keep getting shorter until December 21, the winter solstice, which marks the beginning of winter.

After the winter solstice, the days keep getting longer until June 21, the summer solstice.

18. Celebrations
Since the begging of time (e.g., since the time of the Tower of Babel), people have noticed and celebrated the winter solstice as the time of rebirth and regeneration.

19. Shepherds
Shepherds would not have had their flocks out in open field in winter. It gets cold there too.

Verse routeLuke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. [kjv]

Why did Joseph close the door to the stable?

20. Luke 2:8
   Luke 2:8

What season and time of year did it happen? Why December 25?

Shepherds had their flocks out in open field.

In the temple, there are 24 courses of priests, a new course, in order, starting every 7 days (8 days with one day overlap). Why might this be useful to know?

24. Calendars
The Julian calendar had been used since the time of Julius Caesar, about 48 BC. The calendar was in improvement, but lost about one day every 80 years.

The Gregorian calendar was developed at the time of Pope Gregory and introduced in October 1582.

Many countries waited for hundreds of years until changing their calendar from Julian to Gregorian.

25. Change
In the British Colonies in America, the 11 days from September 3 to September 13, 1752, were skipped in order to move from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar.

26. Timezones
Verse routeJohn 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. [kjv]
