12. Year and season of the birth of Jesus
When you hear that Jesus was born in 6 BC (or 4 BC or 2 BC) does that make the Bible not true? Or is the calendar not accurate?
Some 50 years later: stories of the birth
Some 300 years later: time of year decided
Some 500 years later: calendar years decided
Monk Bede (meaning prayer as in "bid" or "prayer beads") wrote history using dates from Christ.

In 525 A.D., a monk named Dionysius was tasked with determining the exact date of the birth of Jesus and changing the calendar appropriately. By using the reigns of Roman leaders and other important historical relative dates, he come up with a new dating system. He had no year zero, creating a hole in the sequence of years. He also appeared to make at least one important mistake which accounted for about 5 years during the reign of Caesar Augustus known initially as Octavian.
15. Tradition
Once a tradition gets started, it is hard to change.
Once everyone starts using a dating system for years it is hard to change.
16. Millennial dates
Some people get all worked up about January 1 of even hundred years and more-so for even thousand years.
What is special about January 1, 1000 AD, January 1 2000 AD, etc.? These are just human man-made arbitrary conventions that have no other significance.
Note: The Year 2000 computer issue was a real issue that was addressed since it was a man-made issue of how computer code was written years earlier.

"while shepherds washed their socks (frocks, 1876) by night ..."
Why did Joseph close the door to the stable?

In the temple, there are 24 courses of priests, a new course, in order, starting every 7 days (8 days with one day overlap). Why might this be useful to know?
22. Benjamin Franklin and sleep
True or false: Benjamin Franklin one went to bed one evening and woke up 12 days later.
In the British Colonies in America, the 11 days from September 3 to September 13, 1752, were skipped in order to move from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. So, according to the calendar, Benjamin Franklin slept for 12 days. In reality, it was just the arbitrary calendar that changed.

Be not astonished, nor look with scorn, dear reader, at such a deduction of days, nor regret as for the loss of so much time, but take this for your consolation, that your expenses will appear lighter and your mind be more at ease. And what an indulgence is here, for those who love their pillow to lie down in Peace on the second of this month and not perhaps awake till the morning of the fourteenth. (From Benjamin Franklin's Almanac, quoted by Cowan, 29; Irwin, 98)
