Honor the King
by RS  admin@creationpie.com : 1024 x 640

1. Honor the King
Time for the "Declaration of Independence". However, "Houston, we have a problem" (from the Apollo space missions).

How do we get the serious Christians on board for a revolution of the people when the Bible tells them to "obey the King"?

Note: A similar problem arose in the South at the start of the American Civil War.

2. Peter: Honor the King
We serve Jesus as King and Lord or Messiah. Let us now go back and review 2 Peter, starting with an important part of 1 Peter.

3. Honor the king
Peter talks about "false teachers" and "social change".

Verse route1 Peter 2:13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; [kjv]
Verse route2:14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. [kjv]
Verse route2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: [kjv]
Verse route2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. [kjv]

4. Social and political change
Main church entrance to sancuary

Be the change you wish to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi (Indian lawyer and political activist) . This is a popular paraphrase of a longer quote by Mahatma Gandhi. One must distinguish between social change, political change, etc., and the basis and reasoning for that change.

An Friday, August 16, 1946, the day before the World War II Victory Parade in Elizabethtown, PA, 10,000 people were killed in Calcutta during Direct Action Day protest. Gandhi represented the Hindu side.

5. Chain of obediance
Verse route1 Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. [kjv]
Verse routeπαντας τιμησατε την αδελφοτητα αγαπατε τον θεον φοβεισθε τον βασιλεα τιματε [gnt]

The "Declaration of Independence" was written to get serious Bible-believing Christians to support the revolution against King George of England.

Rebel against GodThe word "all" includes the some that are in charge (subset property). This chain of obediance and submission goes from God down unto ourselves.

11. Social change
Verse route1 Peter 2:18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. [kjv]

This admonition goes from bottom to top.

There does not appear to be a case for "social change". If one does what Jesus asks, social change may happen, but social change is not the goal in and of itself.

Luther: Ihr Knechte, seid untertan mit aller Furcht den Herren, nicht allein den gütigen und gelinden, sondern auch den wunderlichen.

13. Froward
The KJV (King James Version) will often use the word "froward".

The word "froward" is opposite of "toward". That is, "away from" and is often used in the sense of "perverse" or "turned away from", is in the truth.

14. Elaboration
Later, in 2 Peter, Peter elaborates.

Verse route2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: [kjv]
Verse route2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. [kjv]
Verse route2:11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. [kjv]

Titus is one of many places where Paul says to obey the instituted government.

Verse routeTitus 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, [kjv]

Why should we obey "magistrates" (rulers in power)? (to be ready to do what?)

20. Titus 3:1
