Star Trek values

1. Star Trek values
The TV series Star Trek ran from 1966-1969. As a network TV show devoid of explicit Christian values, examples from the show can be used to bring out Biblical values or to divert or distract people from those values.

Here Biblical connections are made to aspects of the TV show Star Trek.

2. Beam me up
BIBLE (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth).
In Matthew 7, Jesus uses the ancient Greek word "δοκόν""beam" as a play on words with "δοκοῦν""opinion, expectation" in the "beam" (as expectation) and "mote" where "κάρφος""twig, splinter, mote" and "καρπός""fruit".

Could this be related to "Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life here"?

Information sign More: Matthew 7:3-5 Beams and motes: the devil is in the details
Information sign More: Matthew 12:26-29 Snatching the raptured goods from the strong man
Information sign More: Crying wolf for the search and seizure of the rapture
Information sign More: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-18 Caught up in the rapture

3. Matthew 5:25 Be agreeable
Verse routeMatthew 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. [kjv]
Verse routeesto consentiens adversariocito dumvia cumadversarius iudiciiudex tradatministrocarcerem mittaris [v]

The ancient Greek word "συμφωνία""agreement" and comes from the words for "same voice". The English word "symphony" cames from a group of people with the "same voice".

This is not the Greek word translated as "agree" in Matthew 5:25.

The Latin word "consentio""consent, agree" and is the source of the English word "consent".

4. Star Trek
TV: Star Trek
Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before! Original Star Trek TV series (1966-1969)
Who was "beamed" down to "earth" and lived among us and let us know the "way" to be "beamed up"?

Verse routeJohn 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι ο λογος σαρξ εγενετο και εσκηνωσεν εν ημιν και εθεασαμεθα την δοξαν αυτου δοξαν ως μονογενους παρα πατρος πληρης χαριτος και αληθειας [gnt]

5. Illusions
TV: Star Trek

Star Trek sounds good. Is that right?

6. John 1:14
   John 1:14
 All
KJV: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Greek: και ο λογος σαρξ εγενετο και εσκηνωσεν εν ημιν και εθεασαμεθα την δοξαν αυτου δοξαν ως μονογενους παρα πατρος πληρης χαριτος και αληθειας

7. Matthew 10:30 Top of my head
Verse routeMatthew 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. [kjv]
Verse routeυμων δε και αι τριχες της κεφαλης πασαι ηριθμημεναι εισιν [gnt]

Who is your "head"?

Who are the hairs?

What does it mean to be "numbered"?

My wife told me that she made an appointment to get her hair cut on-line.

9. Back issues
Is this a spineless joke?

10. Science fiction
The "tachyon" as a mythical particle was introduced into science fiction in 1970 by James Blish's Star Trek novel "Spock must die!".

The idea is often used in science fiction writing when faster-than-light communication or transportation is needed.

11. Tribbles
Verse routeGenesis 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; [kjv]
Verse routeוקוץ ודרדר … [he]
Verse routeακανθας και τριβολους ανατελει σοι και φαγη τον χορτον του αγρου [lxx]
Verse routespinastribulos … [v]

The ancient Greek word "τρίβολος""prickly plant" as in a plant with thistles on it. The word appears to literally mean "three arrows" where ancient Greek often uses the prefix of "three" to mean "a lot of". The Latin word "tribulos""thistle".
I have wondered since the 1980's (when I started to learn Greek) if the Star Trek episode involving "Trouble with tribbles" based the word "tribble" on the Greek «τριβολους» for thistle since a tribble in that episode looks somewhat like a thistle.
