GREETING Doug Smith, Diaconal Minister

UNISON PRAYER (Unison)
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross so that he might draw the whole world to himself. Grant that we, who glory in his death for our salvation, may also glory in his call to take up our cross and follow him; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here is a collage of photos of the eclipse of April 8, 2024, from Kaufman, TX, by the wife of DS.
9. Matthew 24:29 Darkness and light
Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: [kjv]
This description that fits an eclipse is part of the "
Olivet Discourse" in Matthew 24:1-51 and 25:1-46 (101 verses), Mark 13:1-37 and Luke 21:4-36. It is one of the larger discourses spoken by Jesus and, at the disciple's request, deals with the "
End Times" or, as a play on words, "
All of it".
By contrast, the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, 6, 7 spans 111 verses.
The exact Greek word used by Jesus for "
fall" is used by him in only one other place in Matthew, the verse of the "
blind leading the blind falling into a ditch"
[Abraham Lincoln]
10. God's law and human law
Start with God's law and add human law as rays.
God will not share his "
opinion" or "
glory" with human "
opinion" or "
glory".
Beware of those who would have a total eclipse of God's true light by man's (as a wolf-dog) false teaching (darkness).
Both are the same ancient Greek word
"δόξα" ≈ "opinion, expectation" as in "
doxology". It is not difficult for human law, opinion, glory, etc., to "
eclipse" God's law, opinion, glory.
Some religious establishments today remove parts of the 10 commandments, etc., with their own opinion, glory, righteousness. Love neighbor takes precedence over God laws. Some churches do this to "
fill the pews".
11. Overview
Creator God [culture, church]
10 commandments/laws/words (Exodus)
The religious establishment then tried to fill in every possible detail of these 10 commandments. Love God takes precedence over loving neighbor as yourself.
2 summary laws (Jesus)
Love God and God's laws, opinion, glory, righteousness (integrity)
Love neighbor as yourself (negative feedback loop)
Actively do good works, passively suffer consequences
Everyone is either a fellow believer or a neighbor.
At the Last Supper, Jesus tells his fellow believers to love one another using the Greek word that means similar believers and not dissimilar or unbelievers.
The "as yourself" avoids bring in outside culture (law, opinion, glory, righteousness) that goes against God, law, opinion, glory, righteousness.

14. Zechariah 14: Neutron bombs and biological weapons
A neutron bomb destroys life without creating as much radiation or contamination as other "
dirty" bombs. In 1978, then President Carter made the policy decision not to deploy the neutron bomb at that time.
Zechariah appears to describe an end-times battle that involves the "
Day of the Lord" and weapons that sound somewhat like a neutron bomb.
Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. [kjv]
On the other hand, it could be some type of biological weapon.
15. Ezekiel 38:2 Gog
Gog appears in an interesting end times prophecy in Ezekiel that appears to talk about the use of
nuclear weapons. Ezekiel 38 is about the attack and defeat while Ezekiel 39 is about the required
cleanup after the battle.
Ezekiel 38:2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, [kjv]
υιε ανθρωπου στηρισον το προσωπον σου επι γωγ και την γην του μαγωγ αρχοντα ρως μοσοχ και θοβελ και προφητευσον επ αυτον [lxx]
Son of man, set your face against Gog, and the land of Magog, Rhos, prince of Mesoch and Thobel, and prophesy against him, [bs3]
Did the
LXX (Septuagint) add the name of the "
chief prince" as
"ρως" ≈ "Rhos", the traditional name of
Russia? Or might it have been removed from the
HOT (Hebrew Old Testament)? Another prominent attacker is in the land of Persia or, today, Iran.

16. Ezekiel 38:4-5 Gog
Ezekiel 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: [kjv]
38:5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: [kjv]
περσαι και αιθιοπες και λιβυες παντες περικεφαλαιαις και πελταις [lxx]

17. Jeremiah 50: Smart weapons
Jeremiah 50:9 For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain. [kjv]
In general, arrows as weapons are not very accurate, especially at long distances. Cruise missiles and other "
smart" weapons have the ability to hit their target with great precision on the very first (and only) shot.
The Greek word for
"arrows" as used in Jeremiah 50:9 appears to refer to what today is called a "
smart weapon" - one that hits the target and never misses.
