Words: Follow as not commanding
1. Words: Follow as not commanding
Matthew 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. [kjv]
και ος ου λαμβανει τον σταυρον αυτου και ακολουθει οπισω μου ουκ εστιν μου αξιος [gnt]
10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. [kjv]
ο ευρων την ψυχην αυτου απολεσει αυτην και ο απολεσας την ψυχην αυτου ενεκεν εμου ευρησει αυτην [gnt]
The English word
"acolyte" comes from the late Latin word
"acolythus" ≈ "acolyte" which comes from the ancient Greek word
"ἀκόλουθος" ≈ "following, attending". That word comes from
"κέλευθος" ≈ "road, way, path" which is from
"κελεύω" ≈ "urge, command" which appears in the
KJV (King James Version) and the
LXX (Septuagint).
The idea appears to be that if one is not commanding or leading than one is following or attending. We are told to be "
followers" and not "
leaders" in the human sense of the word. An interesting use of the word for
"command" appears in a verse for the "
rapture" and often translated as
"shout".
2. Strongs - command
*G2752 *1 κέλευμα (kel'-yoo-mah) : from G2753 κελεύω; a cry of incitement:--shout.
*G2753 *26 κελεύω (kel-yoo'-o) : from a primary kello (to urge on); "hail"; to incite by word, i.e. order:--bid, (at, give) command(-ment).

Words: εκελευον εκελευσα=2 εκελευσεν=16 κελευεις κελευσαντες κελευσαντος κελευσας=2 κελευσματι κελευσον=2

There are a lot of "
commands" in the book of Acts. Jesus rarely uses the word for "
command" as in what a "
leader" does.
3. Matthew 15:35 Jesus
Matthew 15:35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. [kjv]
και παραγγειλας τω οχλω αναπεσειν επι την γην [gnt]
… praecepit … [v]
Jesus transmits a message to the crowd.
The word used is the ancient Greek word
"παραγγέλλω" ≈ "pass on, transmit a message" and can, depending on context, be "
to give orders" or "
to encourage".
The
TR (Textus Receptus) changes the Greek word to
"command" .
The ancient Greek word
"ὄχλος" ≈ "multitude, crown" and may, thorough the Greek digamma, be related to the German word
"Volk" ≈ "people" as in "
Volkswagen" and to the English word
"folk".
It is unclear why The Latin uses the word
"praecipio" ≈ "take, seize, anticipate, order, command, teach, instruct".
4. Matthew 15:35
KJV: And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
Greek: και εκελευσεν τοις οχλοις παραγγειλας τω οχλω αναπεσειν επι την γην
Latin: et praecepit turbae ut discumberet super terram

7. Matthew 27:58 Pilate
8. Matthew 27:58
KJV: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
Greek: ουτος προσελθων τω πιλατω ητησατο το σωμα του ιησου τοτε ο πιλατος εκελευσεν αποδοθηναι το σωμα
Latin: hic accessit ad Pilatum et petiit corpus Iesu tunc Pilatus iussit reddi corpus
9. John 8:12-13 John
Jesus speaks the following at the end of the story of the women caught in adultery. The Pharisees then question Jesus on his record. The Greek adds the double negative for emphasis whereas the English has only one "
not".
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. [kjv]
παλιν ουν αυτοις ελαλησεν ο ο ιησους λεγων εγω ειμι το φως του κοσμου ο ακολουθων ου μη περιπατηση εν τη σκοτια αλλ εξει το φως της ζωης [gnt]
8:13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. [kjv]
10. John 8:12
KJV: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall @MARK(m=[2],t=[not]) walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Greek: παλιν ουν ο ιησους αυτοις ελαλησεν ο ο ιησους λεγων εγω ειμι το φως του κοσμου ο ακολουθων εμοι μοι @MARK(m=[2],t=[ου μη]) περιπατησει περιπατηση εν τη σκοτια αλλ εξει το φως της ζωης
Latin: iterum ergo locutus est eis Iesus dicens ego sum lux mundi qui sequitur me non ambulabit in tenebris sed habebit lucem vitae
11. John 8:13
KJV: The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
Hebrew: ויאמרו הפרושים על נשפך מעיד אתה עדותך איננה נאמנה׃
Greek: ειπον ουν αυτω οι φαρισαιοι συ περι σεαυτου μαρτυρεις η μαρτυρια σου ουκ εστιν αληθης
12. Proverbs 30:27 Locusts and commands
Proverbs talks of a delocalized group of
"insects" that are coordinated in their efforts via an otherwise unspecified "
command".
KJV:
Proverbs 30:27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; [kjv]
αβασιλευτον εστιν η ακρις και εκστρατευει αφ ενος κελευσματος ευτακτως [lxx]
The locusts have no king, and yet march orderly at one command. [bs3]
… locust … no kyng… goith out … [wy]
The opposite of the Greek word for "
command" is that of "
follow". Jesus says to "
follow" him,
not be a "
leader" and "
command" in the human organizational (house of sand) sense.
13. Proverbs 30:27
KJV: The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
Hebrew: מלך אין לארבה ויצא חצץ כלו׃
Greek: αβασιλευτον εστιν η ακρις και εκστρατευει αφ ενος κελευσματος ευτακτως
Brenton: The locusts have no king, and yet march orderly at one command.
Wycliffe: a locust hath no kyng, and al goith out bi cumpanyes; an euete enforsith with hondis,
14. Amos 7:1
Amos 7:1 Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings. [kjv]
ουτως εδειξεν μοι κυριος και ιδου επιγονη ακριδων ερχομενη εωθινη και ιδου βρουχος εις γωγ ο βασιλευς [lxx]
Thus has the Lord God showed me; and, behold, a swarm of locusts coming from the east; and, behold, one caterpillar, king Gog. [bs3]
To set up the use of the
"plumb line" words an Amos 7:7-8, the verses from the start of chapter 7 are covered.
The
LXX includes the words for
"King" and
"Gog" as in
"Gog" and "
Magog" which feature prominently in Ezekiel's prophecy of
"Gog" and "
Magog". Did the
LXX add these words or might they have been removed later?
15. Ezekiel 38:2 Gog
Gog appears in an interesting end times prophecy in Ezekiel that appears to talk about the use of
nuclear weapons. Ezekiel 38 is about the attack and defeat while Ezekiel 39 is about the required
cleanup after the battle.
Ezekiel 38:2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, [kjv]
υιε ανθρωπου στηρισον το προσωπον σου επι γωγ και την γην του μαγωγ αρχοντα ρως μοσοχ και θοβελ και προφητευσον επ αυτον [lxx]
Son of man, set your face against Gog, and the land of Magog, Rhos, prince of Mesoch and Thobel, and prophesy against him, [bs3]
Did the
LXX add the name of the "
chief prince" as
"ρως" ≈ "Rhos", the traditional name of
Russia? Or might it have been removed from the
HOT (Hebrew Old Testament)? Another prominent attacker is in the land of Persia or, today, Iran.

16. Ezekiel 38:4-5 Gog
Ezekiel 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: [kjv]
38:5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: [kjv]
περσαι και αιθιοπες και λιβυες παντες περικεφαλαιαις και πελταις [lxx]

17. Ezekiel 38:4
KJV: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
Hebrew: ושובבתיך ונתתי חחים בלחייך והוצאתי אותך ואת כל חילך סוסים ופרשים לבשי מכלול כלם קהל רב צנה ומגן תפשי חרבות כלם׃
Greek: και συναξω σε και πασαν την δυναμιν σου ιππους και ιππεις ενδεδυμενους θωρακας παντας συναγωγη πολλη πελται και περικεφαλαιαι και μαχαιραι
18. Ezekiel 38:5
KJV: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
Hebrew: פרס כוש ופוט אתם כלם מגן וכובע׃
Greek: περσαι και αιθιοπες και λιβυες παντες περικεφαλαιαις και πελταις
19. Ezekiel 38:2
KJV: Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,
Hebrew: בן אדם שים פניך אל גוג ארץ המגוג נשיא ראש משך ותבל והנבא עליו׃
Greek: υιε ανθρωπου στηρισον το προσωπον σου επι γωγ και την γην του μαγωγ αρχοντα ρως μοσοχ και θοβελ και προφητευσον επ αυτον
Brenton: Son of man, set your face against Gog, and the land of Magog, Rhos, prince of Mesoch and Thobel, and prophesy against him,
20. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Rapture command
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [kjv]
οτι αυτος ο κυριος εν κελευσματι εν φωνη αρχαγγελου και εν σαλπιγγι θεου καταβησεται απ ουρανου και οι νεκροι εν χριστω αναστησονται πρωτον [gnt]
… iussu … tuba … descendet … mortui … [v]
The Greek for "
shout" is that of a "
command". That is, God "
declares" or "
says" and it is.
21. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Dead in Christ
The ancient Greek word
"νεκρός" ≈ "dead". There are jokes that the "
dead in Christ" are those in the "
denominational churches" as in the "
frozen chosen". That is, "
many are cold", a "
few are frozen".
The Greek for
"trump" is that of a
"trumpet" sound. The Latin word
"tuba" ≈ "war trumpet". The Greek for
"shout" is that of a
"command". That is, God "
declares" or "
says" and it is.
22. 1 Thessalonians 4:16
KJV: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Greek: οτι αυτος ο κυριος εν κελευσματι εν φωνη αρχαγγελου και εν σαλπιγγι θεου καταβησεται απ ουρανου και οι νεκροι εν χριστω αναστησονται πρωτον
Latin: quoniam ipse Dominus in iussu et in voce archangeli et in tuba Dei descendet de caelo et mortui qui in Christo sunt resurgent primi
