The English word "acolyte" comes from the late Latin word "acolythus" ≈ "acolyte" which comes from the ancient Greek word "ἀκόλουθος" ≈ "following, attending". That word comes from "κέλευθος" ≈ "road, way, path" which is from "κελεύω" ≈ "urge, command" which appears in the KJV (King James Version) and the LXX (Septuagint).
The idea appears to be that if one is not commanding or leading than one is following or attending. We are told to be "followers" and not "leaders" in the human sense of the word.

An interesting use of the word for "command" appears in a verse for the "rapture" and often translated as "shout".

In reasoning and logic, the Latin phrase "non sequitur" ≈ "does not follow" is a conclusion that does not follow from the reasoning process used. It is sometimes called an "irrelevant conclusion".

Jesus transmits a message to the crowd. The Greek word translated as "command" in the KJV is the ancient Greek word "παραγγέλλω" ≈ "pass on, transmit a message" and can, depending on context, be "to give orders" or "to encourage".
Some Greek versions use the Greek word for "command".

The ancient Greek word "ὄχλος" ≈ "multitude, crown" and may, thorough the Greek digamma, be related to the German word "Volk" ≈ "people" as in "Volkswagen" and to the English word "folk".

It is unclear why The Latin uses the word "praecipio" ≈ "take, seize, anticipate, order, command, teach, instruct".

Proverbs talks of a delocalized group of "insects" that are coordinated in their efforts via an otherwise unspecified "command".

The opposite of the Greek word for "command" is that of "follow". Jesus says to "follow" him, not be a "leader" and "command" in the human organizational (house of sand) sense.

To set up the use of the "plumb line" words an Amos 7:7-8, the verses from the start of chapter 7 are covered.

The LXX includes the words for "King" and "Gog" as in "Gog" and "Magog" which feature prominently in Ezekiel's prophecy of "Gog" and "Magog". Did the LXX add these words or might they have been removed later?

Gog appears in an interesting end times prophecy in Ezekiel that appears to talk about the use of nuclear weapons. Ezekiel 38 is about the attack and defeat while Ezekiel 39 is about the required cleanup after the battle.

Getting back to "following", here are some verses from John. Jesus speaks the following at the end of the story of the women caught in adultery. The Pharisees then question Jesus on his record. The Greek adds the double negative for emphasis whereas the English has only one "not".

The ancient Greek word "νεκρός" ≈ "dead". There are jokes that the "dead in Christ" are those in the "denominational churches" as in the "frozen chosen". That is, "many are cold", a "few are frozen".

The Greek for "trump" is that of a "trumpet" sound. The Latin word "tuba" ≈ "war trumpet". The Greek for "shout" is that of a "command". That is, God "declares" or "says" and it is.
