Expectation of a glorious Greek opinion on a doxology
by RS  admin@creationpie.com : 1024 x 640

1. Expectation of a glorious Greek opinion on a doxology
Opinion as GloryThis Greek word for "opinion" was chosen in the LXX (Septuagint) to represent the Hebrew word for "glory" . This religious meaning continues to this day.
Verse routeLuke 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? [kjv]
Verse routeουχι ταυτα εδει παθειν τον χριστον και εισελθειν εις την δοξαν αυτου [gnt]

The ancient Greek word "δόξα""expectation, opinion" and went to "appearance" to a narrowing of "good repute" to "honor" to (Latin) "glory".
This Greek word is part of the word "doxology" and of the word "paradox" as something that goes beyond opinion or appearance (in a strange way).

The Greek word for "glory" is a narrowing of the ancient Greek «δοκειν» which has to do with thinking well of something or someone as in an expectation.

6. Paradoxes: Beyond expectation of a parallel glory
Verse routeLuke 5:26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι εκστασις ελαβεν απαντας και εδοξαζον τον θεον και επλησθησαν φοβου λεγοντες οτι ειδαμεν παραδοξα σημερον [gnt]

Poggendorf LineThe ancient Greek word "παράδοξος""beyond expectation, strange" and is the source of the English word "paradox" and comes from two Greek words.
Which makes more sense for "paradox"?

7. Good repute and honor
The Greek word for "glory" come through meanings of "good repute" and "honor" . Does that sense make more sense in the following verse?
Verse route2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: [kjv]

Are we being called to "glory and virtue" or are we called through the "glory and virtue" of Jesus?

Portuguese: O divino poder, ao dar-nos a conhecer aquele que nos chamou pela sua glória e pelo seu poder, concedeu-nos todas as coisas que contribuem para a vida e a piedade.

9. Virtue
Here we are interested in "glory" and not "virtue".

10. Glory
The modern Greek word "δόξα" (THO-ksa) ≈ "glory" is a narrowing of the ancient Greek «δοκειν» which has to do with thinking well of something or someone as in an expectation.

11. Expectations
An expectation is something that you think should happen or be true. An interesting connection might be made to the following.

Ancient Greek words: Both words start with the same three letters but then have different endings.

12. Beams and twigs
This "pun" like similarity supports the idea that in the "beam" and "twig" (or "mote") in Matthew 7, the "beam" represents an expectation while the "twig" represents fruit or ability to bear fruit (twig needed).

Ancient Greek words: It is interesting that the word for "expectation" is related to the word for "dogma" as a "teaching" as in an "opinion" with "expectation".

13. Beam me up opinions
Rock and sand Tree with twigs - fruit

In Matthew 7, Jesus appears to use the ancient Greek word "δοκόν""beam" as a play on words with "δοκοῦν""opinion, expectation" in the "beam" (as expectation) and "mote" where "κάρφος""twig, splinter, mote" and "καρπός""fruit".

The ancient Greek word "δόξα""opinion, expectation" and is the source of the English word "doxology".

14. Strongs - glory

15. Glory
In the following verse in the LXX, the Greek word for "glory" appears twice, as it does in the Hebrew. For the second "glory", the KJV (King James Version) used a different word, "honour", possibly to avoid repetition of "glory". The Hebrew uses the same word meaning "glory".

Verse routeProverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. [kjv]
Verse routeכבדוכבד … [he]
Verse routeδοξα θεου κρυπτει λογον δοξα δε βασιλεως τιμα πραγματα [lxx]
Verse routeThe glory of God conceals a matter: but the glory of a king honours business. [bs3]
Verse routegloriagloriainvestigare sermonem [v]

16. Hebrew
[bs3]

כבד - glory The Hebrew word "כבד" (ke-bod) ≈ "glory".

*H3519 כָּבוֹד כָּבוֹד (kaw-bode') : rarely kabod {kaw-bode'}; from H3513; properly, weight, but only figuratively in a good sense, splendor or copiousness:--glorious(-ly), glory, honour(-able).

17. Proverbs 25:2
 All
KJV: It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Hebrew: כבד אלהים הסתר דבר וכבד מלכים חקר דבר׃
Greek: δοξα θεου κρυπτει λογον δοξα δε βασιλεως τιμα πραγματα
Brenton: The glory of God conceals a matter: but the glory of a king honours business.
Latin: gloria Dei celare verbum et gloria regum investigare sermonem
Wycliffe: The glorie of God is to hele a word; and the glorie of kyngis is to seke out a word.

18. Brenton Septuagint
[bs3]

What might the phrase "honors" "business" from the Brenton Septuagint mean? Paraphrase of LXX: It is the glory/opinion of God to hide a rational explanation (for things) but the glory/opinion of a king to honor/value those things (without knowing all the reasoning).

19. Strongs - glory

20. John 8:54 Honor
Opinion as GlorySometimes, the KJV uses "honor" rather than "glory" in translating the Greek word for "expectation" or "opinion".
Verse routeJohn 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: [kjv]
Verse routeαπεκριθη ιησους εαν εγω δοξασω εμαυτον η δοξα μου ουδεν εστιν εστιν ο πατηρ μου ο δοξαζων με ον υμεις λεγετε οτι θεος υμων εστιν [gnt]

Possible translation: Jesus: if I expect of myself, my expectation is nothing: my Father expects of me ... you say he is your God.

Otherwise, one would be "glorifying" oneself. Does the idea of "opinion" or "good repute" fit here?

Latin: respondit Iesus si ego glorifico me ipsum gloria mea nihil est est Pater meus qui glorificat me quem vos dicitis quia Deus noster est
Spanish: Respondió Jesús: Si yo me glorifico a mí mismo, mi gloria nada es; mi Padre es el que me glorifica; el que vosotros decís que es vuestro Dios.
Portuguese: Jesus respondeu: «Se Eu me glorificar a mim mesmo, a minha glória nada valerá. Quem me glorifica é o meu Pai, de quem dizeis: 'É o nosso Deus';

22. Dignities
Both Peter and Jude use the Greek word for "glorious ones" that is translated by the KJV as "dignities".

Verse route2 Peter 2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. [kjv]
Verse routeJude 1:8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. [kjv]

It is interesting that both Jude and Peter have many text phrases that are the same or very similar.

25. Doxology
The ancient Greek word "δοξολόγος""telling the opinion of" and is the source of the English word "doxology" through the Medieval Latin word "doxologia""praise to God"which was often in the form of a short hymn.

26. Syllables
In English, the syllable breaks for the word "doxology" are "doks-ol-o-gy". In Greek, using the English word, the syllable breaks for the word "doxology" are "do-kso-lo-gy".

Greek would pronounce the word as "do-kso-lo-gy" where the modern Greek "d" is pronounced more like a "th".
Greek letterThe "ks" sound is difficult for English speakers at the beginning of a syllable. In general, such Greek words in English use the "x" character and are pronounced like a "z" sound as in "xylophone". In "doxology", the "ks" sound was moved to the end of the syllable as in "box ".
At the end of a word, to "doxx" someone is to "document" someone as in posting personal information about someone on the Internet.

27. Song: Doxology
The "Doxology" is a very short hymn by Englishman Thomas Ken (1674).

He faced many adversities when, because of his serious beliefs, he did not go along with what secular or religious authorities demanded that he do.

This short song is often sung as a praise to the glory of God. There are several slightly different melodies for the words.

It is also known by the first line "Praise God from whom all blessings flow".

Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

29. Slavic word for glory
The Russian word for "glory" or "power" as "славы". The Russian word "слава" (sla-va) ≈ "glory" is related/similar to the Russian word "слово" (slo-va) ≈ "word" which is the source of the term "Slav" or "Slavic" and in country names such as "Yugoslavia", "Czechoslovakia", "Slovenia", etc.
