Verse routeMatthew 21:1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, [kjv]

The word translated as "need" can mean "want". What is the difference between a "need" and a "want"?

The KJV (King James Version) translates as "foal of an ass" what in the Greek is "beast of burden". Are there one or two animals involved?

Verse route19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [kjv]
Verse route19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. [kjv]

One pastor made an emphatic point that Jesus was riding a donkey and not a horse as some great and powerful king. He failed to tell the congregation about that exact thing in Revelation in the second coming of Jesus.

19. Matthew 21:1-15 Triumphal entry
Verse routeMatthew 21:8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. [kjv]

Verse route21:10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? [kjv]
Verse route21:11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. [kjv]

Palm Sunday is the day that Jesus enters Jerusalem. This was not "a day" but "the day" which angered the religious establishment. They were expecting the "Messiah" and "King".

What do branches represent? There were many trees in Jerusalem? What happened to the trees?

Information sign More: Song: This is the day

Verse routeMatthew 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, [kjv]

Verse route21:14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. [kjv]

The "strong" or "righteous" do not "want" a "healer". The "harmed" or "sinners" want a "healer". Jesus refers to those "selling" "birds" as "birds".

[Luke, Mark, Isaiah, guesses as to why Jesus was mad]

25. Matthew 21:13 Den of thieves
Verse routeMatthew 21:13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. [kjv]

Jesus said, "My house shall be called the house of prayer, but you have made it ..." (check all that apply.) Discuss: Are these valid comparisons?

30. John 2:13-17
John orders events in a top-down backward-chaining manner in order the create an overall pattern. This order does not necessarily reflect temporal bottom-up forward-chaining order.

Verse routeJohn 2:13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, [kjv]
Verse route2:14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: [kjv]

Verse route2:17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. [kjv]

Martin Luther would put forward a similar idea that the "church" had made Christianity a "house of merchandise" by selling "indulgences".

Some take the combination of these two verses to claim that Jesus was upset that there was not room in the Court of Gentiles for the Gentiles to worship.

Verse route21:4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had. [kjv]

The Greek translated as the first "poor" is that of being "destitute". The second "poor" is that of being a "beggar" as in "begging for the Good News". How does the use of these different words fit what Luke is saying?

The ancient Greek word "λεπτόν""small coin, small intestine" and is called a "mite" in the GNT (Greek New Testament). A "mite" in the KJV is a "small coin". Before Greece adopted the Euro, the Lepton was the primary unit of currency in Greece. The word comes from the Greek word for "scale".

Consider the John Wesley house analogy. Before going up the steps and through the door into the house one should be sure that this is the house into which one wants to go.

English novelist, journalist, merchant (and pamphleteer and spy) Daniel Defoe (1660-1731), known for Robinson Crusoe in 1719, starts his poem The true-born Englishman as follows.
