1. Revelation 13:1-14 Hunt for a beast

2. Revelation 13

3. Revelation 13:1-14 Hunt for a beast
The Greek word for "beast" appears many times in Revelation 13. This double usage of the same word is similar to the idea that a hunted animal might be a "deer" (noun) and saying that one is going to "deer" (verb). The Greek word for "beast" can be a play on words with the Greek word for "door".

4. Book: A woman rides the beast
Book: A woman rides the beast
In Revelation 17, a woman rides the beast. This is the basis of the book A woman rides the beast, written by Dave Hunt. It was is available as a PDF (Portable Document Format) on the Internet. (as of 2024-10-31)
The book has a lot of interesting research and conjectures, even if some of the conclusions are not accepted.

5. Beast and door
Consider the following word comparisons. Today, these words are pronounced in modern Greek such that they sound the same. However, in ancient Greece, there must have been some distinction in the way the vowels "η" and "υ" were pronounced.

6. The panther as an all-beast
The English word "pather" comes, through French, from the Latin word "panthere""panther" which is from the ancient Greek word "πάνθηρ""panther" and may be related to the Sanskrit word "पुण्डरीक" (pundanka) ≈ "tiger".

7. Romans 11:9
Verse routeRomans 11:9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: [kjv]
Verse routeκαι δαυιδ λεγει γενηθητω η τραπεζα αυτων εις παγιδα και εις θηραν και εις σκανδαλον και εις ανταποδομα αυτοις [gnt]

A word sometimes translated as "trap" is the ancient Greek word "θήρα""hunting" or can be the result of a hunting trip.

One trick in a hunt is to use a split group of hunters where one group attempts to herd or move the prey into a target area while the other group waits for them to move into the "trap".

The same idea is present in deceptions that cause misinterpretations.

We’ve trained a model called ChatGPT which interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer followup questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests. ChatGPT is a sibling model to InstructGPT, which is trained to follow an instruction in a prompt and provide a detailed response. Verse routecaracter … [v]

What does it mean to buy or to sell?

The modern Greek word "χάραγμα" (HA-ra-gma) ≈ "mark, inscribe" appears to go back to the same PIE (Proto Indo-European) root as the above words. This Greek word is featured prominently in Revelation as the "Mark of the Beast". This says the "mark of the beast" or "the number of his name".

It does not say a unique number for each person, though that is not precluded.

The verse after the "mark" of the "beast" contains the well-known "number" of the "beast". Many who have not read nor studied the Bible have heard of the number "666" and the "mark" of the "beast".

45. Revelation 13:18 Number of the beast

The word used for "count" often used for "vote" using a "pebble". It is not common and can be a play on words. The Greek word translated as "number" is that of "reckoning" as in "accounting".

English: ... count the number ...
Greek: ... ψηφισατω τον αριθμον ...
Greek: ... ψηφι σατω τον αριθμον ... (play on words)

Jesus uses similar play on words with Satan in other places.
