Revelation 13:3-13 Beastly wound worship
1. Revelation 13:3-13 Beastly wound worship
This content is being developed. It needs to be split among many pages.
2. Revelation 13
3. Revelation 13:3-13 Beastly wound worship
Revelation 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. [kjv]
και μιαν εκ των κεφαλων αυτου ως εσφαγμενην εις θανατον και η πληγη του θανατου αυτου εθεραπευθη και εθαυμασθη ολη η γη οπισω του θηριου [gnt]
4. Revelation 13:3 Out of
Revelation 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. [kjv]
και μιαν εκ των κεφαλων αυτου ως εσφαγμενην εις θανατον και η πληγη του θανατου αυτου εθεραπευθη και εθαυμασθη ολη η γη οπισω του θηριου [gnt]
The
KJV (King James Version) translates as "
of" the Greek word that means "
out of".
KJV: and one of his heads as if ....
Greek: and one out of the heads of him as if ...
The
KJV translates as "
after" the Greek word that means "
behind" as when Jesus says to
follow "
behind" me.
5. Revelation 13:3 Deadly strike
The
KJV translates as
"wound" the Greek word that means
"strike" as in the
"strike" from a sword. The
"wound" appears to have been inferred from context and added even though it is not in the Greek. Such inferences may not always be correct.
The ancient Greek word
"πληγή" ≈ "stroke from a sword or pike" but is translated as
"plague" in the
GNT (Greek New Testament) (only in Revelation) and is the source of the English word
"plague". The Greek for
"plagues" is that of
"strikes" which may or may not be what is thought of as a
"plague" today.
6. Revelation 13:3 Technology statement
The
KJV translates as "
world" the Greek word that means "
earth".
How could "
all" the "
earth" "
wonder" as in "
marveled"? (technology statement)
7. Revelation 13:3
Here is a plausible alternate model or scenario that appears to be consistent with the Greek and context of the verse.
The "head" is the last of the "seven" "heads" corresponding to the Church of Laodicea and, historically, the apostate church of the End Times.
Some event that causes a worldwide revival would "wound" or "strike" this worldwide apostate church to "death".
That "wound" or "strike" could be "healed" by a return to "apostasy". This could be through some deception on the part of some crafty false leaders or "birds".
The entire "earth" could "marvel" "behind" the "beast" or "monstrosity" of a system.
8. Revelation 13:3
KJV: And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
Greek: και ειδον μιαν εκ των κεφαλων αυτου ως εσφαγμενην εις θανατον και η πληγη του θανατου αυτου εθεραπευθη και εθαυμασθη εν ολη τη η γη οπισω του θηριου
9. Revelation 13:4 Ambiguous with
Revelation 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? [kjv]
και προσεκυνησαν τω δρακοντι οτι εδωκεν την εξουσιαν τω θηριω και προσεκυνησαν τω θηριω λεγοντες τις ομοιος τω θηριω και τις δυναται πολεμησαι μετ αυτου [gnt]
They "
worshipped" with respect to the "
dragon" (
dative case).
The ancient Greek word
"μετά" ≈ "after" has the primary idea of being
"after" something.
The Greek word translated
"with" is ambiguous as is the English
"with".
... make war after/with (against) the beast.
... make war after/with (in alliance with) the beast.
Which might be the more accurate meaning?
10. Revelation 13:4
KJV: And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Greek: και προσεκυνησαν τον δρακοντα ος τω δρακοντι οτι εδωκεν την εξουσιαν τω θηριω και προσεκυνησαν το θηριον τω θηριω λεγοντες τις ομοιος τω θηριω και τις δυναται πολεμησαι μετ αυτου
11. Revelation 13:5 Months
Revelation 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. [kjv]
και εδοθη αυτω στομα λαλουν μεγαλα και βλασφημιας και εδοθη αυτω εξουσια ποιησαι μηνας τεσσερακοντα και δυο [gnt]
Does the phrasing of the number make a difference?
Greek word order: ... months forty and two. (two what?)
TR (Textus Receptus): ... months forty two. (i.e., without the and).
English: ... forty and two months.
Math: 42 = 2*3*7 = 6*7 = 7+7+7+7+7+7.
In this case, there is
redundancy elsewhere to help in error-correcting the meaning.
... more to be added ...
12. Revelation 13:5
KJV: And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
Greek: και εδοθη αυτω στομα λαλουν μεγαλα και βλασφημιας και εδοθη αυτω εξουσια ποιησαι μηνας τεσσαρακοντα τεσσερακοντα και δυο
13. Revelation 13:6 Open mouths
Revelation 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. [kjv]
και ηνοιξεν το στομα αυτου εις βλασφημιας προς τον θεον βλασφημησαι το ονομα αυτου και την σκηνην αυτου τους εν τω ουρανω σκηνουντας [gnt]
The
KJV translates words as "
tabernacle" and "
dwell" for the Greek words that means "
tent" and is the source of the English word
"scene".
The "
dragon"
"opened" his
"mouth" in
"blasphemy". In Matthew 5, Jesus
"opened" his
"mouth" to "
teach". In Matthew 17, Jesus has Peter
"open" the
"mouth" (same phrasing as in Matthew 5) to take the "
money" out of the "
mouth" of the "
fish" to pay to "
temple" "
tax" "
in place of" Jesus and Peter.
Are we to feed every
"open mouth" that is hungry?
14. Open mouths
Matthew 5:2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, [kjv]
και ανοιξας το στομα αυτου εδιδασκεν αυτους λεγων [gnt]
17:27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. [kjv]
ινα δε μη σκανδαλισωμεν αυτους πορευθεις εις θαλασσαν βαλε αγκιστρον και τον αναβαντα πρωτον ιχθυν αρον και ανοιξας το στομα αυτου ευρησεις στατηρα εκεινον λαβων δος αυτοις αντι εμου και σου [gnt]
The exact Greek words for
"open the mouth" appear only
two times in the
GNT and
not in the
LXX (Septuagint). In Greek, the word
"and" before and the word
"of his" after the phrase are also the same. Is there a connection?
Jesus
"opened his mouth" at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount. The religious institution is apparently not interested in the words of Jesus but in
"opening mouths" of "
fish" attracted to the false "
bait" in order to get
"money".
15. Revelation 13:6
KJV: And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
Greek: και ηνοιξεν το στομα αυτου εις βλασφημιαν βλασφημιας προς τον θεον βλασφημησαι το ονομα αυτου και την σκηνην αυτου και τους εν τω ουρανω σκηνουντας
16. Revelation 13:7 Ambiguous with
Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. [kjv]
και και εδοθη αυτω ποιησαι πολεμον μετα των αγιων και νικησαι αυτους και εδοθη αυτω εξουσια επι πασαν φυλην και λαον και γλωσσαν και εθνος [gnt]
… bellum … sanctis … tribum … populum … linguam … gentem [v]
Who are the "saints"?
Do true "saints" make "war"?
The Greek word translated
"with" is ambiguous as is the English
"with".
... make war after/with (against) the saints.
... make war after/with (in alliance with) the saints.
The
KJV appears to
omit "
tribes" which is in the
Greek and in the
Latin. Perhaps the "
tribes" are lumped in with the "
peoples".
17. Revelation 13:7
KJV: And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Greek: και και εδοθη αυτω πολεμον ποιησαι πολεμον μετα των αγιων και νικησαι αυτους και εδοθη αυτω εξουσια επι πασαν φυλην και λαον και γλωσσαν και εθνος
Latin: et datum est illi bellum facere cum sanctis et vincere illos et data est ei potestas in omnem tribum et populum et linguam et gentem
18. Revelation 13:8 Books
Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. [kjv]
και προσκυνησουσιν αυτον παντες οι κατοικουντες επι της γης ου ου γεγραπται το ονομα αυτου εν τω βιβλιω της ζωης του αρνιου του εσφαγμενου απο καταβολης κοσμου [gnt]
Greek: ... the name ... (singular)
TR: ... the names ... (plural)
The ancient Greek word
"βιβλίον" ≈ "scroll, book" and is a
diminutive of the ancient Greek word
"βίβλος" ≈ "scroll, book".
[lamb vs. deny]
19. Revelation 13:8
KJV: And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Greek: και προσκυνησουσιν αυτω αυτον παντες οι κατοικουντες επι της γης ων ου ου γεγραπται τα ονοματα το ονομα αυτου εν τη βιβλω τω βιβλιω της ζωης του αρνιου του εσφαγμενου απο καταβολης κοσμου
20. Revelation 13:9 Ears
Revelation 13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear. [kjv]
ει τις εχει ους ακουσατω [gnt]
This phrase, when used by Jesus. appears means that some play on words may be soon coming. Thus, one needs to use "
ears" to "
hear".
The Greek word for "
hear" is used in this
exact form in the
GNT eight times in
Revelation and only in Revelation.
The suffix "
σατω" is used
11 times in Revelation, twice in the last verse used in words that are opposites. This may be important.
John was told to write down what he saw and heard. Was this something he saw, heard, or, perhaps, made up in same way?
[hear play on words]
21. Revelation 13:9
KJV: If any man have an ear, let him hear.
Greek: ει τις εχει ους ακουσατω
22. Revelation 13:10
Revelation 13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. [kjv]
ει τις εις αιχμαλωσιαν εις αιχμαλωσιαν υπαγει ει τις εν μαχαιρη αποκτενει δει αυτον εν μαχαιρη αποκτανθηναι ωδε εστιν η υπομονη και η πιστις των αγιων [gnt]
Saying:
Those that live by the sword will die by the sword.
23. Revelation 13:10
KJV: He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
Greek: ει τις εις αιχμαλωσιαν συναγει εις αιχμαλωσιαν υπαγει ει τις εν μαχαιρα μαχαιρη αποκτενει δει αυτον εν μαχαιρα μαχαιρη αποκτανθηναι ωδε εστιν η υπομονη και η πιστις των αγιων
24. Matthew 26:52 Perish with the sword
Matthew 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. [kjv]
τοτε λεγει αυτω ο ιησους αποστρεψον την μαχαιραν σου εις τον τοπον αυτης παντες γαρ οι λαβοντες μαχαιραν εν μαχαιρη απολουνται [gnt]
There appears to be a double (duel) meaning here. As the saying goes, "
those who live by the sword shall die by the sword". [take]
Using the "
flaming sword" model, one might say that "
those who take the sword without appropriately acquiring that sword will be destroyed/dissolved by that sword itself". That is, one cannot get to the tree of life without the appropriate sword (and flame). If one tries to get in by going around, as in the sheep pen, it will not work.
One needs to trade their "
garment" for the one at the foot-washing at the Last Supper, for an appropriate "
garment" (as at the parable of the wedding feast), and "
sword", to be provided.
*G622 *90 ἀπόλλυμι (ap-ol'-loo-mee) : from G575 and the base of G3639; to destroy fully (reflexively, to perish, or lose), literally or figuratively:--destroy, die, lose, mar, perish.
The ancient Greek word
"ἀπόλλυμι" ≈ "destroy, perish". Throughout history, have "
all" who have taken up the "
sword" then died by the "
sword"? No. Does the statement by Jesus make sense? Is it incorrect?
Will "
all" those who try to "
take" the "
sword" that Jesus brought, rather than "
sell" their "
garment" to get that "
sword", be "
destroyed", say, by a "
flaming sword"? What happens to those "
garments" that were "
sold" to "
buy" a "
sword"?
26. Revelation 13:11
Revelation 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. [kjv]
και ειδον αλλο θηριον αναβαινον εκ της γης και ειχεν κερατα δυο ομοια αρνιω και ελαλει ως δρακων [gnt]
Do "
lambs" have "
horns"?
How does a "
dragon" speak?
Horn presence is controlled by three genes. One gene (P) is dominant for the polled condition. One gene (p) is sex-linked for non-polled. The third gene (p') produces horns in both ewes and rams. AI search result. (as of 2025-03-12)
27. Revelation 13:11
KJV: And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
Greek: και ειδον αλλο θηριον αναβαινον εκ της γης και ειχεν κερατα δυο ομοια αρνιω και ελαλει ως δρακων
28. Revelation 13:12
Revelation 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. [kjv]
και την εξουσιαν του πρωτου θηριου πασαν ποιει ενωπιον αυτου και ποιει την γην και τους εν αυτη κατοικουντας ινα προσκυνησουσιν το θηριον το πρωτον ου εθεραπευθη η πληγη του θανατου αυτου [gnt]
The Greek word translated as "
cause" by the
KJV is the Greek word for "
make".
Is this "worship" forced by the (second) "beast"?
Does the first "beast" appear a better alternative than the second "beast"?
29. Revelation 13:12
KJV: And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Greek: και την εξουσιαν του πρωτου θηριου πασαν ποιει ενωπιον αυτου και ποιει την γην και τους κατοικουντας εν αυτη κατοικουντας ινα προσκυνησωσιν προσκυνησουσιν το θηριον το πρωτον ου εθεραπευθη η πληγη του θανατου αυτου
30. Revelation 13:13
Revelation 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, [kjv]
και ποιει σημεια μεγαλα ινα και πυρ ποιη εκ του ουρανου καταβαινειν εις την γην ενωπιον των ανθρωπων [gnt]
What might this
"fire" be? The Greek word for "
heaven" and "
sky" are the same word.
Is this a technology statement?
Is this a natural phenomena?

The Greek word for
"red" is related to the ancient Greek word
"πῦρ" ≈ "fire" which is from the
PIE (Proto Indo-European) root
"*PEHWR" ≈ "fire" and is related to the English word
"fire" through Grimm's Law.
31. Greek red fire
Revelation 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. [kjv]
και ωφθη αλλο σημειον εν τω ουρανω και ιδου δρακων μεγας πυρρος εχων κεφαλας επτα και κερατα δεκα και επι τας κεφαλας αυτου επτα διαδηματα [gnt]
… rufus … [v]

The Greek word for
"red" is related to the ancient Greek word
"πῦρ" ≈ "fire" which is from the
PIE root
"*PEHWR" ≈ "fire" and is related to the English word
"fire" through Grimm's Law.
The German word "das Feuer" ≈ "fire".
The modern Greek word "πυρ" (peer) ≈ "fire".
Is this a
"red" "
dragon" or a
"fire" breathing "
dragon"?
Fire often appears more
orange than
red, but, remember, that distinction was not made at that time.
32. Revelation 13:13
KJV: And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
Greek: και ποιει σημεια μεγαλα ινα και πυρ ποιη καταβαινειν εκ του ουρανου καταβαινειν εις την γην ενωπιον των ανθρωπων

34. Revelation 13:14-15 ChatGPT and giving life to the image of the beast
Revelation 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. [kjv]
13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. [kjv]
Revelation 13:14-15 has some interesting technology statements.
35. Revelation 13:16-18 The mark of an impressive character
Revelation 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: [kjv]
13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. [kjv]
13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. [kjv]
… sapientia … intellectum conputet numerum bestiae numerus … numerus … sescenti sexaginta sex [v]
What is the
mark of an
impressive character. In Greek, the words for "
mark", "
impress" and "
character" are related. The most well known "
mark" in the Bible is the "
mark of the beast" in Revelation.
The well-known number
666 is in Revelation 13:18.
