What is the relationship of each of the following? It is not often clear.

Sabbath (regular)
Day of Preparation (day before Passover day)
Passover day (and week, depending on context)
Feast of unleavened bread (first day after passover)
High Sabbath day (tradition, many different ones)

Passover lamb (eaten on the passover evening, ready to eat at sunset)

Meal of preparation (?) with leavened bread.

The leaven was the lump of dough (mediator) that caused the rest of the bread to corrupt. (one bad apple).

What does "not on a feast day" mean? Which "feast"? Which "day"?

Does Josephus provided any insight?

The Hebrew culture used a calender based on the moon, not the sun.

Easter is the first Sunday after the full moon date that falls on or after March 21 of each year.
Technical note: Easter can be between March 22 and April 25 (years 1753 to 2400).

March 21 can depend on the exact calendar system used. Eastern Orthodox churches still use the Julian calendar, about 13 days different from the Gregorian calendar. Russia did not make the calendar change until 1918 which resulted in a strange battle history involving Napoleon in 1805.

Jesus says "three" "days" "and" (conjunction) "three" "nights".

From a logical computer science problem solving perspective, one must first identify the problem. Then one must decide whether it is important or not important.

The "three" "days" "and" "three" "nights" is interesting as an academic issue but not important in what Jesus actually wants one to do.

Why would Jesus restate something in Greek if it could be later misinterpreted?

There are various ways to try to get "three" "days" "and" "three" "nights".

Assume that any part of a "day" or "night" to represent the entire "day" and "night".
Confuse the starting point of zero or one in counting. A very common problem in programming, for programmers at any level, is the "off by one" issue.
One can attribute what Jesus says to Aramaic idioms and assume that they apply to the time of Jesus, even given the Greek influence that had been present for some 350 years. One can use, for example, Aramaic from Persia 400 years earlier (Esther), Hebrew from David's time some 1000 years earlier, etc. In many cases, the "off by one" issue is present as it is often not clear (e.g., with a margin of two or greater).

If the crucifixion were Thursday, this would be the traditional "High Sabbath" (Friday) and not the regular "Sabbath" (Saturday).

Was it appropriate for the religious establishment to seek a meeting with Pilate on the regular "Sabbath"?

The religious elite requests that the "tomb" be made "safe" until the "third" "day". Some who try to defend the church tradition of a Friday crucifixion will use this verse that the "tomb" need only be "secure" "until" the "third" "day".

This assumes that the starting point is the crucifixion and they are asking for a guard until before the end of the "three" "days" and "nights".

Which makes more sense for a request to Pilate?

We would like a guard for the tomb from yesterday until the third day from yesterday. Does this request even make sense? That is what is often assumed without thinking through the logic of what one is saying.
We would like a guard for the tomb from now until the third day from now. This would go beyond the "three" "days" and "three" "nights".

Matthew 27:65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. [kjv]

The Greek for "watch" is the word from Latin that is today the English word "custodian".

The "go your way" is the same word used for Jesus telling Satan to "get out of here".

How did Matthew know about this conversation of the religious elite with Pilate?

The crucifixion week is an important part of Christian history. In Jewish tradition (from Genesis), each day starts the evening before and ends at the start of the next evening.

Sabbath: Friday at sunset until Saturday at sunset.

The "Day of Preparation" is the day before the Sabbath or High Sabbath. The modern Greek word "Παρασκευή" (Pa-ra-skev-EE) ≈ "Friday", which is, literally, the day of "Preparation".

There appear to be some mistranslations of the GNT (Greek New Testament) in order to fit the Christian tradition of a Friday crucification at the expense of not having three days and three nights in the "belly of the earth" and rise "after the third day". There are many talking points to explain away the obvious contradictions.in the translations of the Greek texts.

The next day, after the day of "preparation", would be the "Passover".

The Greek word translated as "followed" is that of "after". The ancient Greek word "μετά" ≈ "after" has the primary idea of being "after" something. The modern Greek word "μετά" (meh-TA) ≈ "after". The Greek meaning of "repent" was that of "think after".

Was this day the special (as a tradition) "High Sabbath", the regular "Sabbath" or were they both on the same day? Are there days, such as the Sabbath, when the religious establishment would not go to Pilate?

According to Matthew, Jesus said he would, like Jonah, spend "three" "days" and "three" "nights" in the belly of the earth. What was told to Pilate is that "after" "three" "days" which may not be the same. The religious elite do not have a good track record of remembering exactly what Jesus said.

The Sabbath and the High Sabbath can be on the same day with a 1/7 probability and on a different day with a 6/7 probability.
An Easter tradition is that the crucification of Jesus was on Friday afternoon and that the empty tomb was discovered, with the stone rolled away, on Sunday morning.

The Sunday morning discovery seems well-founded based on the texts of the GNT and subsequent church history and traditions. Some issues arise with the certain passages.

Did Jesus mean exactly or a minimum of these "days" and "nights"? The ancient Greek word "τρεῖς" ≈ "three".

Remember: The stone was moved to let the women and disciples in, not let the resurrected Jesus get out.

There is general agreement on the above week. Let us count part of a "day" or "night" as an entire "day" or "night".

The tradition is of a Friday crucifixion. It is hard to rationalize three "days" and three "nights" in the grave.

There are only two "nights".
There are three "days" only if Jesus did not resurrect until after daybreak.

There are three "days". If Jesus waited until a daybreak the last night then there are four "days".
There are three "nights".The resurrection can be any time starting Friday night.

How does one get "three" "days" and "three" "nights" from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning?

There appear to be some mis-translations in order to make the time line fit the accepted traditions.
The traditions were put in place a long time after the events actually happened.

The Passover week of the crucifixion of Jesus is documented in the four Gospels. There are some variations in the events and many have tried to harmonize the Gospels for events of the Passover week.

The ancient Greek word "ἅπτω" ≈ "touch, fasten to, kindle, set on fire" and can mean "grasp" with the senses as in "apprehend" or "perceive". It is the source of the English word "haptic" as in something that "touches".
