The "stone", as in the "stone the builders rejected", is usually taken to be Jesus.
When talking about rock hard evidence, we are not talking about the Hard Rock Cafe - started in 1971 in London and moving to a rock music theme in 1979 (with walls, etc., covered with memorabilia). It was acquired by a Florida-based company in 2007.
