1. Moving rules inside-out
The church, over time, has moved abstract ideas (in the original Greek) to concrete actions (via the Latin and, sometimes, English) that can be "measured" to ensure conformity. The use of "oaths" is one way to achieve conformity in an organization. Jesus says to not make "oaths".

2. A joyous thank you for the grace of a gaudy favor
The Greek word often translated as "joy" can be mistaken as meaning "merry" or "great happiness" or "bliss". The word "joy" comes, through French, from the Latin "gaudia" ≈ "joy" and which became "gaudy".
The ancient Greek word "χαρά" ≈ "favor, grace" was the word used to translate the Hebrew word. Following Jesus is not all "joy" in the modern English sense of the word.

At the time, the meaning of "suffer" was to "passively endure". So much of this endurance was painful persecution that the word took on the meaning it has today. Another Greek word meant "suffer" as in "to allow".

3. Inside Out and Fear
Movie: Inside out by Pixar
One of the characters in the animated Pixar movie Inside Out is "Fear". The others are "Disgust", Joy, "Sadness" and "Anger".
The Greek word for "favor" is often translated as "joy" which leads to subtle deceptions in modern day church sermons, etc.

4. Inner attitude vs. outward behavior
Here is a start at a list of words whose meaning changed from the original Greek.

6. Thinking as a black box
Black boxA human cannot know exactly what someone else is thinking. Others are like a "black box" from the outside. The Bible says this. Jesus, however, could know their thoughts.

A black box model only shows the input and/or output of the model, not the inner workings. A white box or glass box model allows the internals to be known.

An example of a black box model is quantum mechanics. How it works (functionally) is very well understood but why it works is unknown.

That is, the finding and hiding is only in the eyes of Jesus and others do not see this. Man sees the outward "appearance" or, in the LXX (Septuagint), the "face" (that is put on).

From the perspective of others, it is as if those "treasures" have always been, are now, and always will be "hidden" (from men) until the end of the age. We will rediscover and return to both of these ideas in parable 8 - the "hidden" kingdom parable because it is not described using that word but fits all the other requirements of a kingdom parable.

The ancient Greek word "καταφρόνησις" ≈ "hold in contempt, despise".

Note that this can be done without the other person knowing. False leaders, false teachers, etc., will show an outward appearance that is different from their "heart" on the "inside" or "secret chambers". This "pretending" or "acting" is captured in the Greek word for "hypocrite".
