The ancient Greek word "χάριν""favor, purpose, joy" and is, through Latin influence, often translated as "grace". The ancient Greek word "μείζων""greater, larger" in a comparative sense. God offers "grace". What is "more" (in a bigger sense) than the "grace" God offers? This appears to be a (not uncommon) converse logical error by James.

Will the devil "flee" from us if we "resist" him? It might make more sense that the devil would "flee" or "avoid" or "get away from" those who give in to him and concentrate efforts on those who "resist" him. Discuss:

One is not to give in to "evil". One is to go one's way, do what Jesus wants, and take any worldly consequences that result.

The word translated "double-minded" is used twice in James and is not a common word. Necker CubeCan someone look at the same thing in more than one way? Does that make them "double-minded"?

Discuss: When Jesus healed on the Sabbath, he was in violation of the law. Why did Jesus do this in violation of the law?

Being silent is an option taken by many. The Anglican Church has a Confession of Sin that starts as follows. Are we responsible for what we did not do? How about what we could have done?
