The "
brethren" are "
brothers". In the Greek, the "
followers together of me" is from the words for "
together" and "
mimic" as in "
imitate".
One is to "
imitate" Christ and not "
impersonate" Christ. One gets the idea that the leadership are doing some "
impersonating" rather than "
imitating".

The ancient Greek word
"μῖμος" ≈ "imitator, actor" and is the source of "
mime", "
imitate", etc.

The Greek for "
ensample" is the word for "
type" as in a "
prototype" and not the usual Greek word for "
sample" that is the basis of the English word
"paradigm". The ancient Greek word
"τύπος" ≈ "blow, pressing, mark, figure" and is the source of the English word
"type" as in printing, computer programming languages, etc.
Interesting, to "
type" on a keyboard is to "
strike" or "
hit" the keys - the original meaning of "
type" in Greek.

The ancient Greek word
"περιπατέω" ≈ "walk around" .
Aristotle, from Stagira, taught in Athens in the open rather than closed environments and had a habit of walking back and forth as he talked. One tradition has it that his followers were called "
peripatetics" for this reason.
Writing to a Greek audience, Paul appears to be saying that our walk should be with Jesus and not with the philosophy of man.

The ancient Greek word
"παραλογίζομαι" ≈ "reason falsely" is used often by Aristotle in his work
On sophistic refutations. Paul uses this word in Colossians - a book that uses many Aristotelian words. Apparently "
false reasoning" in "
teaching" was a problem at the church at Colossae.

rest". This verse appears to be referring, in part, to what was said in chapters 1 and 2.

23. False teaching as poison
Talking about false teachers, early church father
Ignatius writes the following to the
Trallians (part 6.2, underlining added).
The Greek for "
unsuspecting" is "
ignorant". One needs to study the truth to not be "
ignorant".

What is the
functional difference between the following?
Someone who says "I am Christ. Do this." (false Christ).
Someone who says "I represent Christ. Christ says to do this.".
24. Puffed up with pride
After warning about the poison of false teachers, Ignatius tells the Trallians in the very next line that being puffed up with pride makes one susceptible to such false teachers (part 7.1).

Such prideful people think (know) that they know the answers without even checking to verify them. They will proclaim "
I am" followed by assertions or oaths of their self-exalted position.

An
"antidote" is what one takes
"in place of" the "
dose" or what is given as poison.
The
"antidote" for sin in general is mentioned by
