Minding the tail of the sky
by RS  admin@creationpie.com : 1024 x 640

1. Minding the tail of the sky
Verse routeRevelation 9:10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. [kjv]
Verse route9:19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. [kjv]

The ancient Greek word "οὐρά""tail" of an animal such as a lion, dog, etc. In military terms, it could be the rear-guard of a marching army. The word appears five times in three verses in the GNT (Greek New Testament) in Revelation and in the LXX (Septuagint).

What might the symbolic meaning of the "tail" be? The "head" is usually considered opposite to the "tail". In English, the terms "heads" and "tails" refer to opposite sides of a coin.
Saying (of snakes, etc.): Heads I win. Tails you lose.
Saying: I can't make heads or tails of it.

If Jesus is the "head", then who or what is the "tail"? The ancient Greek word for "tail" is related to the (vulgar) word "ὄρρος""backside".

2. Devil came down to Georgia
Part of the origin of the Halloween tradition reminds one of the country bluegrass song "The devil went down to Georgia" made famous by the Charlie Daniels Band, released May 21, 1979.

Of course, it is ironic that being temped by the prospect of a golden fiddle may mean that the devil has already won.

Saying (of snakes, etc.): Heads I win. Tails you lose.
Here is a summary if the "things" with which Jesus was tempted by the devil.

3. Hairs on a head revisited
Verse routeMatthew 5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. [kjv]
Verse routeμητε εν τη κεφαλη σου ομοσης οτι ου δυνασαι μιαν τριχα λευκην ποιησαι η μελαιναν [gnt]
Verse route10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. [kjv]
Verse routeυμων δε και αι τριχες της κεφαλης πασαι ηριθμημεναι εισιν [gnt]

As a secondary meaning, Jesus is the "head" of the "church" of "believers". Let us paraphrase both verses using this insight and using a "person" (or "believer") as a "hair".

4. Hairs and believers

5. Revelation 12:4
Verse routeRevelation 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι η ουρα αυτου συρει το τριτον των αστερων του ουρανου και εβαλεν αυτους εις την γην και ο δρακων εστηκεν ενωπιον της γυναικος της μελλουσης τεκειν ινα οταν τεκη το τεκνον αυτης καταφαγη [gnt]

This verse about "devouring" can be hard to "digest".

KJV: And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
Greek: και η ουρα αυτου συρει το τριτον των αστερων του ουρανου και εβαλεν αυτους εις την γην και ο δρακων εστηκεν ενωπιον της γυναικος της μελλουσης τεκειν ινα οταν τεκη το τεκνον αυτης καταφαγη

7. Strongs - tail

8. Usage - tail
*G3769 *5 οὐρά (oo-rah') : apparently a primary word; a tail:--tail.
Word usage per chapter Words: ουρα=1 ουραι ουραις=2 ουρας

The ancient Greek word "οὐρά""tail" of an animal such as a lion, dog, etc. In military terms, it could be the rear-guard of a marching army.

What English word is pronounced the same when the last four letters are removed?
The modern Greek word "ουρά" (u-RA) ≈ "tail, queue".

9. Farmer sayings
Many farmers desire to be outstanding in their field.

The English word "bossie" is a diminuative form of the Latin word "bos""ox" and is related to the ancient Greek word "βους""cow, ox".

10. Deuteronomy 28:44-45
Verse routeDeuteronomy 28:44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail. [kjv]
Verse routeουτος δανιει σοι συ δε τουτω ου δανιεις ουτος εσται κεφαλη συ δε εση ουρα [lxx]
Verse route28:45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: [kjv]
Verse routeκαι ελευσονται επι σε πασαι αι καταραι αυται και καταδιωξονται σε και καταλημψονται σε εως αν εξολεθρευση σε και εως αν απολεση σε οτι ουκ εισηκουσας της φωνης κυριου του θεου σου φυλαξαι τας εντολας αυτου και τα δικαιωματα αυτου οσα ενετειλατο σοι [lxx]

The word translated as "keep" is the Greek word for "watch over" and in context, the corresponding noun can mean a "prison".

13. Job 41:7
Verse routeJob 41:7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears? [kjv]
Verse routeπαν δε πλωτον συνελθον ου μη ενεγκωσιν βυρσαν μιαν ουρας αυτου και εν πλοιοις αλιεων κεφαλην αυτου [lxx]

Brenton: So the Lord took away from Israel the head and tail, great and small, in one day:

17. Isaiah 9:15
Verse routeIsaiah 9:15 The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. [kjv]
Verse routeπρεσβυτην και τους τα προσωπα θαυμαζοντας αυτη η αρχη και προφητην διδασκοντα ανομα ουτος η ουρα [lxx]
Verse routethe old man, and them that respect persons, this is the head; and the prophet teaching unlawful things, he is the tail. [bs3]

Have "prophets" ever taught "unlawful" things? Would a "tail" want to impersonate a "head" in order to deceive and obtain worldly rewards or recompense? The next verse appears to answer this question.

Information sign More: Imitator or impersonator of Christ

18. Isaiah 9:15
   Isaiah 9:15
 All
KJV: The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
Hebrew: זקן ונשוא פנים הוא הראש ונביא מורה שקר הוא הזנב׃
Greek: πρεσβυτην και τους τα προσωπα θαυμαζοντας αυτη η αρχη και προφητην διδασκοντα ανομα ουτος η ουρα
Brenton: the old man, and them that respect persons, this is the head; and the prophet teaching unlawful things, he is the tail.

19. Isaiah 9:16
Verse routeIsaiah 9:16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι εσονται οι μακαριζοντες τον λαον τουτον πλανωντες και πλανωσιν οπως καταπιωσιν αυτους [lxx]
Verse routeAnd they that pronounce this people blessed shall mislead them; and they mislead them that they may devour them. [bs3]

This series of verses sounds somewhat like the "dragon" and the "woman" and the "child" in Revelation.

Do any churches today "pronounce" the people "blessed" and "cause them to wander" so they might "devour" them to "fill their belly" or to "fill the pews"?

20. Isaiah 9:16
   Isaiah 9:16

KJV: For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
Hebrew: ויהיו מאשרי העם הזה מתעים ומאשריו מבלעים׃
Greek: και εσονται οι μακαριζοντες τον λαον τουτον πλανωντες και πλανωσιν οπως καταπιωσιν αυτους
Brenton: And they that pronounce this people blessed shall mislead them; and they mislead them that they may devour them.

21. 1 Peter 5:8 Adversaries
Verse route1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [kjv]
Verse routeνηψατε γρηγορησατε ο αντιδικος υμων διαβολος ως λεων ωρυομενος περιπατει ζητων καταπιειν [gnt]

The ancient Greek word "ἀντίδικος""legal opponent" but could, in general, mean any opponent. The literal meaning is that of someone "in place of you or yours".

Peter says that the "devil" is the "adversary". Can the "adversary" work through others? In the temptation of Jesus, Jesus does not dispute who controls the kingdoms (mountains) of the world. Here is one progression. Discuss: Are people who offer at the altar watched? Are there fish (spies) reporting back through the pigs to the birds? What happens if the sheep do anything wrong according to the rules of the bird house?

22. Revelation 9:10
Verse routeRevelation 9:10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι εχουσιν ουρας ομοιας σκορπιοις και κεντρα και εν ταις ουραις αυτων η εξουσια αυτων αδικησαι τους ανθρωπους μηνας πεντε [gnt]

The "sting" of a "scorpion" that "scatters" is often not felt until some time after the "sting".

The word translated as "hurt" is the ancient Greek word "ἀδικοῦσιν""in the wrong, do one wrong" and is from "ἀδικέω""be in the wrong, do one wrong" which is from "ἀδικος""wrong, unjust" and is related to the Greek word for "unrighteousness".

Do false teachers or "snakes" inflict "pain" or "hurt"? Do false teachers "do wrong" that, like the sting of a "scorpion", may not be noticed immediately.

23. Revelation 9:10
 All
KJV: And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
Greek: και εχουσιν ουρας ομοιας σκορπιοις και κεντρα ην και εν ταις ουραις αυτων και η εξουσια αυτων αδικησαι τους ανθρωπους μηνας πεντε

24. A scatter-brained approach to the sting of a scorpion
Verse routeMatthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. [kjv]
Verse routeο μη ων μετ εμου κατ εμου εστιν και ο μη συναγων μετ εμου σκορπιζει [gnt]

In Greek, the words for "scorpion" and "scatter" are related. It is unclear as to which word came from which, but both are used in the LXX and GNT. Certainly scorpions would cause a group to scatter or move away from them.

The word for "gather" is that of a "gathering" or "synagogue" which is a Greek word and not a Hebrew word.

The ancient Greek word "συναγωγή""gathering".

25. Luke 10:19
Verse routeLuke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. [kjv]
Verse routeιδου δεδωκα υμιν την εξουσιαν του πατειν επανω οφεων και σκορπιων και επι πασαν την δυναμιν του εχθρου και ουδεν υμας ου μη αδικησει [gnt]

Are these actual "scorpions"? People have died thinking that this "dreaded" verse would protect them. The word translated as "hurt" is the ancient Greek word "ἀδικοῦσιν""in the wrong, do one wrong" and is from "ἀδικέω""be in the wrong, do one wrong" which is from "ἀδικος""wrong, unjust" and is related to the Greek word for "righteousness". The "not hurt you" appears to be that of "not deceive you".

Do false teachers or "snakes" inflict "pain" or "hurt"? Do false teachers "do wrong" that, like the sting of a "scorpion", may not be noticed immediately.

26. Context
Verse routeLuke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. [kjv]
Verse route10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. [kjv]
Verse route10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. [kjv]
Verse routeιδου δεδωκα υμιν την εξουσιαν του πατειν επανω οφεων και σκορπιων και επι πασαν την δυναμιν του εχθρου και ουδεν υμας ου μη αδικησει [gnt]
Verse route10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. [kjv]

Remember that Luke reports what people remembered.

27. Review of temptations and evil
Verse routeMatthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. [kjv]
Verse routeτοτε ο ιησους ανηχθη εις την ερημον υπο του πνευματος πειρασθηναι υπο του διαβολου [gnt]

Verse route6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: … [kjv]
Verse routeκαι μη εισενεγκης ημας εις πειρασμον αλλα ρυσαι ημας απο του πονηρου [gnt]

Paraphrase: Do not be deceived by ideas/beliefs that you already think you understand. Help us move/flow from being oppressed by others or oppressing others or oppressing ourselves with toils (based on those deceptions).

28. Revelation 9:19 Hurt and pain
Verse routeRevelation 9:19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. [kjv]
Verse routeη γαρ εξουσια των ιππων εν τω στοματι αυτων εστιν καιεν ταις ουραις αυτων αι γαρ ουραι αυτων ομοιαι οφεσιν εχουσαι κεφαλας και εν αυταις αδικουσιν [gnt]

Do false teachers or "snakes" inflict "pain"? Do false teachers "do wrong" that, like the sting of a "scorpion", may not be noticed immediately.

29. Revelation 9:19
 All
KJV: For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
Greek: αι γαρ εξουσιαι η η γαρ εξουσια αυτων των ιππων εν τω στοματι αυτων εισιν εστιν και εν ταις ουραις αυτων αι γαρ ουραι αυτων ομοιαι οφεσιν εχουσαι κεφαλας και εν αυταις αδικουσιν

30. Matthew 10:28 Soul and body
Verse routeMatthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. [kjv]
Verse routeκαι μη φοβεισθε απο των αποκτεινοντων το σωμα την δε ψυχην μη δυναμενων αποκτειναι φοβεισθε δε μαλλον τον δυναμενον και ψυχην και σωμα απολεσαι εν γεεννη [gnt]

Jesus tells us who we should "fear" and it is not "fear" about the cares and concerns of this world. The most dangerous attacks are not from the outside but from the inside and involve deception.

One cannot "destroy the soul" by "killing" the body is in persecution (e.g., by the Roman administrations). The primary way to "destroy the soul" is through deception so that you "sell yourself out" or are "sold out".

Jesus provides an example in the next verse.

Information sign More: The fear deception: focus on friends rather than Jesus

31. Matthew 10:29 Soul and body
Verse routeMatthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. [kjv]
Verse routeουχι δυο στρουθια ασσαριου πωλειται και εν εξ αυτων ου πεσειται επι την γην ανευ του πατρος υμων [gnt]

32. Revelation 9:19
Verse routeRevelation 9:19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. [kjv]

OuroborasA "snake" or "serpent" has a rather small "head" and a very long "tail".

Can a "tail" have a "head"?
Where is the "power" of a "false" teacher or leader? Might the "serpents" or "snakes" refer to false teachers with a false form of "forgiveness" or "remission" of "sin" (if the word "sin" is actually used or defined)?

33. Matthew 12:34
Verse routeMatthew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. [kjv]
Verse routeγεννηματα εχιδνων πως δυνασθε αγαθα λαλειν πονηροι οντες εκ γαρ του περισσευματος της καρδιας το στομα λαλει [gnt]

Where is the "power" of a "false" teacher or leader as a "snake", "bird", "wolf", "wolf-dog", etc.? The Greek word for "snake" or "viper" used here is related to the Greek word for "eel" which can be a play on words with "lips".

34. Matthew 12:34
 All
KJV: O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Greek: γεννηματα εχιδνων πως δυνασθε αγαθα λαλειν πονηροι οντες εκ γαρ του περισσευματος της καρδιας το στομα λαλει

35. Strongs - lips

36. Usage - lips
*G5491 *7 χεῖλος (khi'-los) : from a form of the same as G5490; a lip (as a pouring place); figuratively, a margin (of water):--lip, shore.
Word usage per chapter Words: χειλεσιν=3 χειλεων χειλη=2 χειλος

The ancient Greek word "χεῖλος""lip, snout, beak, rim, shore".
The modern Greek word "χέλι" (HEH-lee) ≈ "eel" is a shortened form of "ἔγχελυς""eel" which comes from a Greek word for "snake". An "eel" appears like a "snake" but lives in the sea much as a "fish".

The ancient Greek word "χελιδών""swallow" known for unintelligible twittering and, as such, used to describe such people.

37. Lips and eels
Verse routeIsaiah 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: [kjv]

40. Strongs - serpent

41. Usage - serpent
*G3789 *14 ὄφις (of'-is) : probably from G3700 (through the idea of sharpness of vision); a snake, figuratively, (as a type of sly cunning) an artful malicious person, especially Satan:--serpent.
Word usage per chapter Words: οφεις=3 οφεσιν=1 οφεων=2 οφεως οφιν=3 οφις=4

The ancient Greek word "ὄφις""serpent, snake". A play on words could be with the ancient Greek word "ἄφες""let go, forgive". A specific form is "αφεσιν""remission" as in "forgiveness".

42. Matthew 26:28
Verse routeMatthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. [kjv]
Verse routeτουτο γαρ εστιν το αιμα μου της διαθηκης το περι πολλων εκχυννομενον εις αφεσιν αμαρτιων [gnt]

A play on words can be made with "remission" or "forgiveness" and "snakes" or "serpents" in Revelation. Can a false or misguided belief relate to confusing "snake" induced behavior with true "forgiveness"? That is, the bite and sting of the "snake" paralyzes the victim to not be able to "walk" in "righteousness" but, instead, to be "snake" food the fill the "belly" of the "snake" (on "earth").

That is, the bite and sting of the "snake" paralyzes the victim to not be able to "walk" in "righteousness" but, instead, be "snake" food the fill the "belly" of the "snake" (or "earth").

Would a "snake" ever be found in the "belly" or "abyss" of the "earth"?

45. Sins and healing
Verse routeMatthew 9:5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? [kjv]
Verse routeτι γαρ εστιν ευκοπωτερον ειπειν αφιενται σου αι αμαρτιαι η ειπειν εγειρε και περιπατει [gnt]

Paraphrase: Which is the better toil, to say your sins are forgiven or to say arise and walk?

47. Ouroboros
OuroborasA "snake" has a rather small "head" and a very long "tail". A common saying/symbol for self-reference is the "snake" eating it's "tail". The "ouroboros", from the Greek for "eating the tail" is an ancient symbol of self-reference.
The ancient symbol of Ouroboros, via the Greek ουροβόρος for "tail" and "food", originated in Egyptian symbology. Note: Cats will sometimes go after their own tail without realizing that it is their tail.

Do "evil" entities as represented by "snakes", "birds", "wolves" or "wolf-dogs", etc., ever eat their own? Can this be a self-deception such as with a cat not realizing it is their own tail?

In the work of ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes Laertius, Kratos makes a comment. This is a play on the Greek for "new" with "and" and "brain" or "mind". Here are the ancient Greek words.

49. Matthew 9:17 Double meaning
Verse routeMatthew 9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. [kjv]
Verse routeουδε βαλλουσιν οινον νεον εις ασκους παλαιους ει δε μηγε ρηγνυνται οι ασκοι και ο οινος εκχειται και οι ασκοι απολλυνται αλλα βαλλουσιν οινον νεον εις ασκους καινους και συντηρουνται [gnt]

As translated: ... but they put new wine into new bottles and both are preserved.
Greek word order: ... but they put wine new into bottles new and both are preserved.
Paraphrase: ... but they put new wine into bottles and mind and both are preserved.

That is, the new "doctrine" of the "wine" (as in "drink my blood") is put into the containers (body) and the "mind" and, thus, both body and mind are preserved (resurrected). If one puts new "doctrine" of the "wine" into the old containers (body) those containers are not preserved (resurrected)

50. Sky and heaven
*G3772 *275 οὐρανός (oo-ran-os') : perhaps from the same as G3735 (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension, heaven (as the abode of God); by implication, happiness, power, eternity; specially, the Gospel (Christianity):--air, heaven(-ly), sky.
The ancient Greek word "ουρανός""sky, heaven".

The English word for the planet "Uranus", discovered by William Hershel in 1781, is from the ancient Greek word "Οὐρανός""Uranus" who was a god in Greek mythology.

51. Mind of the tail
If Jesus is the "head", then what is the "tail"?

Jesus often uses code words where nouns are replaced with other nouns - so that the people will not understand. In the security field, this is the definition of a secret code. An interesting play on words is the use of a certain form of the word "heaven" - the genitive singular form.
English: heaven, air
Greek: οὐρανού
Greek: οὐρά νου
English: tail of the mind
Note: Play on words to not need to follow grammar and/or spelling rules to be recognized and/or be effective.

Let us see how Jesus uses this form of the word in Matthew.

52. Matthew 13:4,19 Birds and the evil one
At the request of the disciples, Jesus provides the code-word meaning of the "birds" or "fowls" as those of the "wicked one". This happens when one does "not understand" as in "deception" (including self-deception).

Verse routeMatthew 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: [kjv]
Verse route13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. [kjv]

The "catcheth away" is related to the word for "rapture". The KJV (King James Version) translates as "evil" or "wicked" the Greek word that means "oppression" or "oppressor".

53. Verse with Greek
Verse routeMatthew 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: [kjv]
Verse routeκαι εν τω σπειρειν αυτον α μεν επεσεν παρα την οδον και ελθοντα τα πετεινα κατεφαγεν αυτα [gnt]
Verse route13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. [kjv]
Verse routeπαντος ακουοντος τον λογον της βασιλειας και μη συνιεντος ερχεται ο πονηρος και αρπαζει το εσπαρμενον εν τη καρδια αυτου ουτος εστιν ο παρα την οδον σπαρεις [gnt]

The Greek for "snatch away" is the word used for "rapture" and the source of the English word "harpoon". It is also used as "ravenous" in terms of "wolves".

The "seed" that was "snatched away" in parable 1 appears to have been deposited (by the "birds") in parable 2 as "weeds" and then grows into a "tree" in parable 3 so that those "birds" have a place to make their "nests".

54. Kingdom of the birds
Verse routeMatthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? [kjv]
Verse routeεμβλεψατε εις τα πετεινα του ουρανου οτι ου σπειρουσιν ουδε θεριζουσιν ουδε συναγουσιν εις αποθηκας και ο πατηρ υμων ο ουρανιος τρεφει αυτα ουχ υμεις μαλλον διαφερετε αυτων [gnt]

Sow grow harvest store

The step omitted by Jesus is the "grow" part. The "birds" work the growing harvest by "pecking" and taking part of the harvest (first parable), and, in turn, sowing "weeds" (second parable). You are "rather different" (at least you should be). The KJV, influenced by the Latin, says "much better".

The "birds" are used by Jesus as a symbol of "false teachers" who "prey", rather than "pray", on others. The "wolf" or "wolf-dog", as contrasted to a "sheep-dog", and the "snake" or "viper" appear to be used in the same manner.

Verse routeFoxisbriddis of heuene … [wy]

Is the "kingdom of heaven" actually "heaven" as in the "kingdom of God"? Some will attempt to "fix" a perceived "error" in the Bible text by asserting their opinion (or glory) that "kingdom of God" and "kingdom of heaven" are the same thing.

If birds represent "evil" or "oppression" (parable 1), are there any birds in heaven?

Verse routeheofene fugeles … [wes]
Verse routebriddis of heuene … [wy]

The ancient Greek word "οὐρανός""heaven, air".

Wycliffe translates the Greek as the Middle English phrase "briddis of heuene""birds of heaven" as does the Wessex Old English phrase "heofene fugeles""birds of heaven".

The old English word "briddis" for "bird" may be the source of the English word "bride".

Is the play on words applicable to saying in a tongue-in-cheek way that they exalt themselves to "heaven"? Or was it related to the "tail" "of the mind"

60. Matthew 11:23

Do the "wise" and "clever", not the Greek word for "prudent", include the "scribes"? The "scribes" today would be the academics and theologians.

A play on words is usually of a certain word with a certain meaning. To be a play on words requires some context into which that play on words word fit. That context does not appear to be in this verse nor in some others, for the same reason.

63. Review: Matthew 13 Mustard seed parable #3
Verse routeMatthew 13:31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: [kjv]
Verse route13:32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. [kjv]

Tree with twigs - no fruit
The "mustard seed" :
The "birds" do not (usually) nest in small bushes. Are the "birds" good? What is a "mustard seed"? What does a "tree" represent? The word for "air" or "sky" or "heaven" can be a play on words for "tail" of the "mind".

64. Matthew 13:31-32: Mustard seed connection
[kjv]

In the 4th century, the "meek" small Christian churches started to "inherit" worldly power and grew into a huge "tree" such that "birds" started to "lodge" in the "branches".
The Greek word for "mustard plant", with play-on-word meanings with Rome, appears in only two stories (five verses) in the GNT and connects with the idea of "moving this mountain".

This use of "heaven" or "air" is Matthew 16:1 is connecting commentary by Matthew and not spoken by Jesus. Jesus does use these word in what he says in Matthew 16:3.

This verse has many other play on words. The play on words of "air" or "heaven" or "sky" as the "mind" "of the tail" does not fit the word used in Matthew 16:2 and the first one in 16:3 but only in 16:1 (Matthew) and the second one in 16:3 (Jesus).

Jesus speaks these words. If Jesus was addressed in Aramaic he would have spoken in Aramaic and Matthew would have later translated.

Perhaps Jesus was addressed in Greek and he included a play on words for the situation.

What are these "stars" that "fall" and what "powers" are "shaken"? Might these be related to the "tail" "of the mind" for the first use of "heaven" in this verse? Some of this appears to be referenced or described in Revelation.

The description by Jesus fits what is called an "eclipse". The preceding verse describes "lightning". The "shaken" describes ocean waves.

Only the second word for "heaven" might be a play on words with "tail" "of the mind". The context may not fit for such a play on words. The KJV translates as "great" the Greek word that means "many". The ancient Greek word "μεγας""great" and is the source of the English prefix "mega". This word is not used here.
