Deception by avoiding detection using concealment
by RS  admin@creationpie.com : 1024 x 640

1. Deception by avoiding detection using concealment
In his Sophistic Refutations, Aristotle states how concealment is used to avoid detection for the purposes of deception. This can be compared to what Jesus and Paul (and others) say in the Bible about false teachers.

In sermons (one-sided arguments not subject to cross-examination), some pastors "conceal" by cherry picking verses that support their "opinion" or "glory", omitting other verses for the purposes of "escaping detection" all for the "joy of deception".

Interestingly, Aristotle continues in what amounts to saying that deception is not usually done using false facts. So "fact checking" in the contemporary sense can in fact be a way to distract from or conceal other facts in order to avoid detection for the purposes of deception.

2. Sophistic refutations
Book: On Sophistic Refutations
Aristotle wrote a book called On Sophistic Refutations in which he detailed the "false reasoning" used by Sophists (from the Greek word for "wisdom") who would use invalid logic to convince others of ideas to make money for themselves. In English, "sophistic" logic or "false reasoning" is "sophistry".
One of the many types of invalid logic detailed by Aristotle was "eristic" reasoning. Paul uses that word often but it is often translated, without the "bad logic" connection, as "strife"

Information sign More: Eristic reasoning creates strife and contention
Information sign More: Aristotle

3. Competitive arguments
In his work Sophistic Refutations Aristotle writes about "competitive" (as in sports) "arguments": (underlining added).

Greek: ἡ γὰρ κρύψις ἐστὶ τοῦ λαθεῖν χάριν, τὸ δὲ λαθεῖν τῆς ἀπάτης.

English: for concealment is for the purpose of escaping detection, and escape from detection is for the purpose of deception. Loeb #400, p. 81.

The Greek here translated "purpose" means "favor" and is in the KJV (King James Version) often translated as "joy" as in "joy of deception".

Information sign More: A joyous thank you for the grace of a gaudy favor

4. Sermons
Have you ever heard a pastor say something like "God will not share his glory with anyone"? Soon after, the congregation is asked to "give glory to God" in some form of acclimation or proclamation.

Cherry pick 2In sermons (one-sided arguments not subject to cross-examination), some pastors "conceal" by cherry picking verses that support their "opinion" or "glory", omitting other verses for the purposes of "escaping detection" all for the "joy of deception" - which could be a reflexive self-deception.

5. Words
The following words are of interest here from what Aristotle writes. Each word will now be examined.

The ancient Greek word "χάριν""favor, purpose, joy" has been discussed at length elsewhere.

Information sign More: A joyous thank you for the grace of a gaudy favor

6. Hidden
The ancient Greek word "κρυπτός""hidden, secret" and is from the ancient Greek word "κρύπτω""hide, cover" and whose meaning may have been influenced by the ancient Greek word "καλύπτω""cover".

Some English words from the ancient Greek word "κρυπτός""hidden, secret" include the following.

7. Strongs - hide

8. Usage - hide
Word usage per chapter Words: εκρυβη=4 εκρυψα εκρυψαν εκρυψας εκρυψεν=3 ενεκρυψεν κεκρυμμενα κεκρυμμενον κεκρυμμενος κεκρυμμενου κεκρυμμενω κεκρυπται κρυβηναι=2 κρυψατε

9. Strongs - cover

10. Usage - cover
Word usage per chapter Words: καλυπτει=2 καλυπτεσθαι καλυψατε καλυψει κεκαλυμμενον=3

11. Hidden in parables
Verse routeMatthew 13:35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world. [kjv]
Verse routeοπως πληρωθη το ρηθεν δια του προφητου λεγοντος ανοιξω εν παραβολαις το στομα μου ερευξομαι κεκρυμμενα απο καταβολης [gnt]
Verse routePsalms 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: [kjv]
Verse routeανοιξω εν παραβολαις το στομα μου φθεγξομαι προβληματα απ αρχης [lxx]

The "things" in the "parables" (or "proverbs") have been "hidden" (or "covered") and are, thereby, "secret". Jesus is talking in a secret code where nouns are replaced with other nouns - to be uncovered with their intended meaning using the codebook (supplied by the Bible and Jesus).

Information sign More: Parables and secret codes used and explained by Jesus

12. Problems
Verse routePsalms 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: [kjv]
Verse routeανοιξω εν παραβολαις το στομα μου φθεγξομαι προβληματα απ αρχης [lxx]

The Greek for "dark sayings" in the LXX (Septuagint) is the source of the English word "problems" as in something that is, literally, "seen before".

Another Greek word for "dark sayings" is the source of the English word "enigma" and related to the Greek word for "praise".

Information sign More: A dark and enigmatic praise
The Greek word for "problems" is sometimes translated as "riddle" (e.g., in the stories of Samson).

*G2928 *18 κρύπτω (kroop'-to) : a primary verb; to conceal (properly, by covering):--hide (self), keep secret, secret(-ly).
The "treasure" is "hidden", found, and then "hidden" again before the selling and buying. The ancient Greek word "κρυπτός""hidden, secret" and is from the ancient Greek word "κρύπτω""hide, cover" and is the source of the English word "cryptography".

20. Escape detection
The ancient Greek word "λαθεῖν""escape detection, escape notice" which is the aorist active infinitive of "λανθάνω""escape detection, escape notice". In context the words can mean "cause to forget".

Something that has "escaped detection" is often an "error" or "mistake". Note that in the field of software engineering, the definition of an error and a definition of a needed change have essentially the same definition.

Verse route εκειθεν δε αναστας απηλθεν εις τα τυρου και σιδωνος και εισελθων εις οικιαν ουδενα ηθελεν γνωναι και ουκ ηδυνασθη λαθειν [gnt]

That is, Jesus could not "escape detection". A fundamental part of "escaping deception" has to do with the definition of "information". That is, what is known and by whom is it know and at what time was it known. This is a fundamental part of statistics which is why the fields of informatics or computer science are closely related to the fields of statistics and data science.

The ancient Greek word "ἀσφαλής""immovable, unfailing, safe" and is, literally, "not fallen down". The modern Greek word "ασφαλής" (a-sfa-LEES) ≈ "safe, secure". So in baseball, one may slide into a base, falling down in the process, and be called "safe" or in Greek, literally, "not fallen down".

Planets in ancient times True goal False goal
How does a "sheep" know if it has gone or is going "astray"?
The ancient Greek word "πλάνη""wandering, roaming" and, figuratively, "going astray" or "in error". as in wandering off-target. The English word "planet" comes from this Greek word as a shortened form of "wandering star" since planets were considered wandering stars. The modern Greek word "πλανήτης" (pla-NEE-tees) ≈ "planet".

Discuss: Consider the billions of people throughout the ages. Are the "many" a few insurrectionists from the first century or so who led a few thousand followers?
